Our previous study reported the expression of kisspeptin in the preoptic area (POA) and arcuate nucleus (ARC) of the hypothalamus of cycling buffalo cows. In ruminants, POA and ARC are the main hypothalamic nuclei through which kisspeptin acts on the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, due to their stimulation of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) secretion. In many species, kisspeptin activates GnRH neurons via its receptors (KISS1R or GPR54). Trophoblast cells from bovine somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) conceptuses express major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC-I) proteins early in gestation, and this may be one cause of the significant first-trimester embryonic mortality observed in these pregnancies. MHC-I homozygous-compatible (n = 9), homozygous-incompatible (n = 8), and heterozygous-incompatible (n = 5) SCNT pregnancies were established. The control group consisted of eight pregnancies produced by artificial insemination. Uterine and placental samples were collected on Day 35 ± 1 of pregnancy, and expression of MHC-I, leukocyte markers, and cytokines were examined by immunohistochemistry. Involucrin (INV) is a cornified envelope precursor protein that is commonly used as an early stage marker of human terminal keratinocyte differentiation. This research investigated the expression of INV in canine skin tumors using 56 formalin-fixed paraffin-embedding (FFPE) biopsied specimens. The expression of INV was investigated by immunohistochemistry (IHC) and RT-PCR. Correlation between INV and Ki-67 was also performed. The malignant tumor groups showed significantly different INV staining scores and Ki-67 positive cells than the normal skin group by IHC (p<0.05). The INV scores of moderately differentiated SCC (MSCC), trichoblastoma (TCB), basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and poorly differentiated SCC (PSCC) significantly decreased, with a statistically significant difference (p<0.05). Interestingly, the INV of poorly differentiated SCC disappeared in some specimens. The INV expression in most tumors was found to be inversely proportionate to Ki-67 positive cells. In addition, only SCC regardless of tumor grade without tumor-graded specimens showed an inversely statistically significant difference between the Ki-67 positive cells and INV expression (p<0.0001). In RT-PCR, mRNA expression of the FFPE specimens showed substantial similarity of INV expression as in IHC. It is suggested that the INV expression should be further studied in terms of clinical prognosis in canine cutaneous SCC.

Approximately 7.5 million Americans are affected by a voice disorder. In the last year, 7.2% of people missed one or more days of work due to a voice problem. For professional voice users, such as teachers, the rate increases to 20% and an annual cost of $2.5 billion. Voice disorders are complex and multi-faceted, as well as difficult to diagnose and treat. In this study, the presence of endosymbiotic Wolbachia bacteria was determined by immunohistochemical methods in 8 out of 43 paraffin-embedded bovine aortic tissues that were macroscopically and microscopically diagnosed with aortic onchocerciasis in the archive of the Harran University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine's Department of Pathology. Merkel cell tumors, a type of cutaneous round-cell tumors, are rarely observed in dogs and cats. This tumor type originates from cutaneous neuroendocrine cells. In the present study, the morphology of canine and feline Merkel cell tumors and their immunoexpression of neuron-specific enolase, cytokeratin, chromogranin A, Ki67, and metallothionein were evaluated using histopathological and immunohistochemical methods. The canine Merkel cell tumor displayed a diffuse morphological pattern, whereas the feline tumor displayed a solid morphological pattern.
