Nursing faculty are sometimes challenged when leading students to successful completion of nursing exams including the NCLEX. It is essential that faculty identify specific learning barriers for students who are challenged with nursing exams. Nursing faculty have reported various methods of remediation to enhance students’ readiness for taking nursing exams in preparation for the NCLEX. Although test review sessions, guided imagery, and assessments of learning styles are common strategies reported by faculty to provide remediation for students who are preparing for nursing exams, the literature reveals minimal evidence to support these strategies. Formulating a Best Practice Statement for Prison Parenting Programs Purpose: The purpose of this undergraduate honors project was to critically analyze available research on parenting, parenting education, incarcerated parents, and outcomes for the children of incarcerated parents, and make recommendations to a correctional facility for best practices. Background: Over 1.7 million American children have one or more incarcerated parents. These children are at high risk of depression, aggression, and intergenerational incarceration. Many incarcerated men have a limited understanding of parenting and fatherhood. While countless correctional facilities nationally have educational parenting programs, these programs are mainly unstandardized, and their efficacy is …

The presenters will describe the findings of a mixed-methods research study designed to explore students’ perspectives of skills and knowledge gained through engaging with older adults with physical and/or cognitive limitations living in a continuing care retirement community (CCRC). Participants in the study included students enrolled as juniors and seniors in a baccalaureate nursing program. Community partnerships with several CCRCs provided the opportunities for students to interact with elders. During the service-learning course, students developed and implemented evidence-based health promotion activities directed towards enhancing the elders’ cognitive, physical, and psychosocial functioning.
