This workshop is an examination of family therapy with a family when at least one member is on the spectrum. A trait scale (developed by the speaker) is utilized to assist therapists in having a clear direction to assist families in this position. Case studies will be utilized.

  1. Provide therapy to families with a ASD member
  2. Know how to utilize the ASD Trait Scale
  3. Assist couples in discussing differences in their perception of their ASD member
  4. Have specific interventions available after the workshop

Relating to nonverbal children can be challenging. This workshop will offer unconventional and non-threatening ways of connecting to children based upon theories of Creative Arts Therapy. These modalities are non-verbal, developmental, and playful. Participants will engage in creative experiences that can increase interpersonal awareness, empathy, reciprocity, and shared attention with nonverbal children.

This program is designed to help you… 1. Build awareness of strengths and needs of the non-verbal population 2. Build awareness of theories and goals of Creative Arts Therapies 3. Exposure to non-verbal techniques used to relate to children with ASD 4. Creative participation in non-verbal experiences
