Mild Traumatic Brain Injury: Are Emergency Department Providers Identifying Which Patients Are At Risk?, Barbara Kay Stuart

Objective: Identify patients with specific emergency department (ED) discharge diagnoses who later report symptoms associated with a mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI), compare frequency and severity of MTBI symptoms by discharge diagnoses, investigate the frequency of head injury education provided to ED patients with each diagnosis, and finally, to learn what type of changes have occurred in the lives of patients as a result of their injury.

Methods: Fifty-two ED patients, aged 18 to 28 who were at least two weeks post injury, spoke English and were discharged with a diagnosis of concussion/closed head injury (CHI), head laceration, motor vehicle …

O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a qualidade de vida dos estudantes no curso de Enfermagem de uma faculdade privada. Realizou-se um estudo descritivo, com abordagem quantitativa, utilizando a Escala de Qualidade de Vida de Flanagan e um instrumento de coleta de dados complementares, contendo questões estruturadas. Resultou numa amostra de 192 (cento e noventa e dois) estudantes. O diagnóstico evidenciou que a maioria dos estudantes está „Satisfeitos‟ e „Pouco satisfeitos‟ com a sua qualidade de vida, entretanto identificou a presença de vários problemas que necessitam de atenção dos educadores. Currently, an estimated 18 percent of children and adolescents ages 6-19 years are overweight. The purpose of this study was to extend the theory of self-care deficit nursing by including specific constructs of religion, spirituality, and spiritual self-care practices within the structure suggested by Orem's self-care deficit nursing theory. Based on an extensive literature review, practice experience, and a discovery theory-building approach, a new mid-range theory called White's theory of spirituality and spiritual self-care (WTSSSC) was developed. The objectives of this study were to (a) pilot test instruments measuring fatigue and quality of life (QOL); (b) pilot test an exercise intervention; and (c) estimate the effect size of this intervention relative to completion of combination therapy, fatigue, QOL, and walking distance in 20 patients with chronic hepatitis C about to begin interferon alpha and ribavirin treatment. Alpha reliabilities for both the Schwartz Cancer Fatigue Scale and Hepatitis Quality of Life Questionnaire were moderately high. Power analyses of all outcome measures indicated a small effect size and sample size estimate of 30–40 per group to achieve power of …
