The purpose of this study was to investigate the quality of life and physical fitness in patients after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG). We used WHOQOL-BREF (Taiwan) to evaluate the quality of life, and (The symbol is abbreviated) O(subscript 2peak) to evaluate physical fitness. We also collected the data of pre-operative left ventricle cardiac ejection fraction and analyzed the correlation within the data. There were 33 male post-CABG patients enrolled in this study. Each patient received a cardiopulmonary exercise stress test 3~4 weeks after the surgery. Each of them completed the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire (Taiwan version). We applied Pearson's correlation coefficient to …

Effects Of Residence On Physical Fitness Among Adults In Taiwan, Jih-Rong Lin, Yin-Chou Lin, Cheng-Hsiu Lai, Chia-Hua Kuo, Shih-Wei Chou, Alice M. K. Wong

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

Health-related physical fitness can be assessed using four principal attributes: body composition; muscular strength and endurance; flexibility; and cardiorespiratory endurance. Factors such as the lifestyle behaviors or dietetic habits can affect physical fitness. The aim of this study is to investigate the differences in physical fitness among adults residing in different areas of Taiwan. The study was conducted between April and November 2002. In total, 19638 subjects aged 18-65 years were recruited and divided into the following three groups: (1) urban group (subjects living in Taipei and Kaohsiung City); (2) rural group (subjects living in Yunlin County, Chiayi County, Chiayi …

Quality Of Life And Peak Oxygen Consumption In Patients With Congestive Heart Failure, Chen-Liang Chou, Chia-Ling Chang, Chantelle Wu, Su-Ying Hung, Shun-Ping Chen, Tcho-Jen Liu

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

Although the physical consequences of congestive heart failure are well known, its effects on patient well-being, severity of exercise intolerance, and quality of life are largely unknown. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of physical fitness (as measured by O2 peak), quality of life (as measured with the WHOQOL-BREF in Taiwan), and severity of left ventricle dysfunction (as measured by left ventricle ejection fraction) in patients with congestive heart failure.Twenty patients were enrolled in this study, but only 11 had completed the ”WHOQOL-BREF”. We used the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS14.0) for statistical analysis. The …
