The vascular pattern of the gingival crevice in relating to the alveolar bone was studied in rats using the SEM vascular casting technique. The crevicular vasculature demonstrated two types of morphology: planar plexus and coiled vascular loop. The planar plexuses were found subjacent to the crevicular epithelium extending from the gingival margin to the epithelium attachment while the coiled loops were found at the middle third of the crevice. The loops arise from the ascending vessels of the planar network underneath, coiled and drained into the larger vessels refered to post-capillary venules and collecting venules.
