An estimated 2.3 to 3.5 million people are homeless in the U.S., often living with chronic medical and mental illnesses. The underserved population, such as the homeless, continues to experience gaps in services, resulting in poor healthcare outcomes and readmission to the hospital setting. Improving Mental Health Literacy: A Single-Subject Design Experiment Examining The Effects Of Text Messaging On Adolescent Mental Health Literacy, Emma Coffman

The purpose of the study is to determine the feasibility of delivering a text-based mental health literacy intervention for adolescent children who have family members with mental illness. The effectiveness of the text message intervention was measured using a single subject, multiple baseline study design. Each participant received three text messages per week for a total of 6 weeks, containing information regarding mental illness, managing crisis, resources, stigma, and assertiveness. The subjects were evaluated using qualitative and quantitative measures at multiple periods throughout the study. Assessments utilized include: Schizophrenia Vignette quiz developed by Jorm et. al. Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is a rare, reversible form of cardiomyopathy. First cases of takotsubo cardiomyopathy were described in Japan, twenty years ago (Milinis, & Fisher, 2012). takotsubo cardiomyopathy is a transient left ventricular dysfunction, typically triggered by severe emotional or physical distress. Left ventricular ballooning is characteristic of Takotsubo syndrome. Images of this ballooning resemble a takotsubo vessel used in Japan for collecting octopus, thus the reason for the syndrome name (Pelliccia, et. al, 2014). The purpose of this study was to explore the utilization of specialized camp services among parents of a child with a disability. This study sought to investigate specialized camp services as respite for families. The data was gathered utilizing a mixed method survey approach. The surveys were distributed to primary caregivers of a child with a disability who have attended Camp Paivika within the past three years. The sample size of this study was 69 respondents. The results show that the family unit benefits by way of de-isolation. The camper increases social skills, confidence, and independence. The caregivers experience emotional …

The incidence of smoking among mentally ill people is very high. Smokers have a 50%, rate of mental illness diagnosis compared with 23% rate for general population. To address this problem, the purpose of this project was to plan a smoking cessation program for patients in a mental health facility. The theoretical foundation for this project was based on the theory of planned behavior, which identifies the predictive nature of smoking and the benefits that can be derived from implementing a systematic approach for change.
