Efficacy Of Mdma-Assisted Psychotherapy In The Treatment Of Chronic Ptsd, Alexis Coleman, Nicole Blixt

Objective: To assess the effectiveness of MDMA-assisted psychotherapy in treating patients with chronic refractory PTSD using a systematic review.

Methods: Literature search was performed on PubMed and PsychINFO using search terms “PTSD” and “MDMA” to identify randomized control trials within the past 10 years.

Results: Two out of the three studies found statistically significant data in the treatment of refractory PTSD. Mithoefer, M. et al and Ot’alora, M. et. al found a statistically significant decrease in CAPS-IV total scores, decrease in depression symptoms, decreased in dissociative symptoms, and increase in sleep quality.

BACKGROUND: Personal narrative plays an important role in the process of recovery from psychotic illnesses. Participatory video is a novel, active intervention that can be used as a tool for fostering narrative development among people with psychosis.

AIM: To assess the feasibility, acceptability and potential clinical utility of participatory video as an innovative tool for promoting recovery in early psychosis.

METHODS: Ten outpatients of an early psychosis intervention programme were recruited to participate in 13 biweekly workshops to plan, film and produce documentary-style videos of their experiences. Background: Psychological comorbidities are common among people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and are associated with worse disease outcomes. Evidence-based psychotherapy is an effective means to increase psychosocial support. This study aimed to identify the barriers to attending psychotherapy.

Methods: This electronic survey study included a demographic, quality of life, and barriers to psychotherapy questionnaire. Quality of life was assessed using the Short Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire (SIBDQ). Barriers were assessed using the Perceived Barriers to Psychological Treatments scale (PBPT). Linear regression was used to identify participant characteristics associated with higher PBPT scores.

Within the Routine Outcome Monitoring system “OQ-Analyst,” the questionnaire “Assessment for Signal Cases” (ASC) supports therapists in detecting potential reasons for not-on-track trajectories. Factor analysis and a machine learning algorithm (LASSO with 10-fold cross-validation) were applied, and potential predictors of not-on-track classifications were tested using logistic multilevel modeling methods. The factor analysis revealed a shortened (30 items) version of the ASC with good internal consistency (α = 0.72–0.89) and excellent predictive value (area under the curve = 0.98; positive predictive value = 0.95; negative predictive value = 0.94). The current paper reports on a service evaluation of a novel brief therapy service based within an Emergency Department, Hospital Outpatient Psychotherapy Engagement (HOPE) Service.
