Nursing faculty are sometimes challenged when leading students to successful completion of nursing exams including the NCLEX. It is essential that faculty identify specific learning barriers for students who are challenged with nursing exams. Nursing faculty have reported various methods of remediation to enhance students’ readiness for taking nursing exams in preparation for the NCLEX. Although test review sessions, guided imagery, and assessments of learning styles are common strategies reported by faculty to provide remediation for students who are preparing for nursing exams, the literature reveals minimal evidence to support these strategies. Nursing faculty at IPFW have expanded on common …

Improving Active Transportation Data In Hias With Automated Counters: Lessons From Ca, William W. Riggs
William W. Riggs
Quantifying the active transportation by biking and walking through counts is an important part of developing policy and intervention to mitigate risk and encourage active lifestyles. Numerous studies have evaluated the different methods of counting bicycles and pedestrians, but very little work has evaluated actual cases of how they fit into active transportation programs and health impact assessments (HIAs). The purpose of this study was to study validates the results of those studies looking at the reliability of results gathered as a part of two California projects and how they fit into existing planning and health assessment programs. Automated counters …

Things That Matter To Residents In Nursing Homes And The Nursing Care Implications, Nila Reimer
Nila Reimer
A move toward care of residents in nursing homes where they are respected and heard is finally emerging. Common strategies used in nursing homes to improve quality of care for residents are integration of person-centered care and assessing care using satisfaction surveys. Although approaches of integrating person-centered care and satisfaction surveys have been valuable in improving nursing home quality, these strategies may exclude things that residents describe for themselves matter to them while living in nursing homes. The purpose of this qualitative descriptive study was to describe things that residents age 65 and older state matter to them while living …
