Effect Of Adiponectin And Highly Sensitive C-Reactive Protein On The Severity Of Coronary Artery Disease, Ahmed A. Reda, Ahmed O. Elsisy, Waleed A. Ibrahim
Menoufia Medical Journal
Objective The objective of our study was to estimate the effect of adiponectin (ADPN) and highly sensitive C-reactive protein (hsCRP) level on the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD) in patients with chronic stable angina. Materials and methods MEDLINE databases (PubMed, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, British Medical Journal, Journal of American College of Cardiology, and European Heart Journal) and also materials available in the internet were searched. The search was performed in the electronic databases from 2000 to 2017. The initial search presented 122 articles of which 29 met the inclusion criteria. The articles …

Pattern Of Coronary Artery Disease In High-Risk Patients Without Prior Myocardial Infraction, Abd Elmoaty G. Kishk, Hala M. Badran, Naglaa F. Ahamed
Menoufia Medical Journal
Objective This study aimed to assess the causes, risk factors, outcome, and recommendation of patients with coronary artery disease without prior obstruction. Materials and methods Medline databases (PubMed, Circulation, American Society of Echocardiography, Journal of American Colleague of Cardiology, and ScienceDirect) and also materials available on the internet. The search was performed in the electronic databases from 2012 to 2017. The initial search presented 60 articles of which 23 met the inclusion criteria. The articles studied the pattern of coronary artery disease in patients with risk factors without prior obstruction. If the studies did not fulfill the inclusion criteria, …
Severity Of Atherosclerotic Coronary Artery Disease In Relation To Glycated Hemoglobin Level In Diabetic Patients, Abdullah M. Kamal, Ahmed A. Mostafa, Bayoumi M. Bayoumi
Severity Of Atherosclerotic Coronary Artery Disease In Relation To Glycated Hemoglobin Level In Diabetic Patients, Abdullah M. Kamal, Ahmed A. Mostafa, Bayoumi M. Bayoumi
Menoufia Medical Journal
Objective The aim of this work was to assess the relationship between the level of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD) among diabetic patients and perform a comparison with nondiabetic patients. Background Diabetes mellitus and coronary heart disease are closely associated and generally coexist. The severity CAD is directly related to the quality of glucose control in diabetic patients. Patients and methods This study included 150 patients referred to coronary angiography. In addition to the routine evaluation, assessment of HbA1c level, transthoracic echocardiogram, and coronary angiography were performed and the Gensini score (GS) was calculated. …

Background/aim: Fetuin-A, a circulating inhibitor of calcification, is a marker of inflammatory-nutritional state. We evaluated the association between serum fetuin-A levels and vascular calcification, intima-media thickness, and nutritional and inflammatory markers in different stages of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Materials and methods: CKD patients were sampled for calcium-phosphate parameters and nutritional and inflammatory markers [highly sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP)], and serum fetuin-A levels. Intima-media thicknesses of the common carotid arteries (CIMT) were measured. Peripheral artery calcification scores were obtained. Results: A total of 238 patients were included in the study. Fetuin-A levels in patients with end-stage renal disease were significantly lower …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
Background/aim: Human endothelial cell-specific molecule-1 (endocan) is a marker of vascular endothelial dysfunction that may be used in the evaluation of inflammatory-associated atherosclerotic lesions. Endocan may be a marker for the evaluation of atherosclerosis and disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients.Materials and methods: We included 39 RA patients assessed according to the American College of Rheumatology/European League Against Rheumatology 2010 diagnostic criteria and recruited 30 age- and sex-matching healthy subjects for the control group. Results: Endocan values were 14.11 ± 3.27 for the RA patients and 12.10 ± 2.92 for the controls. The endocan values of the patients were significantly …

We aimed to evaluate the relationship between YKL-40 and endothelial dysfunction in chronic kidney disease. Materials and methods: Twenty-nine hemodialysis patients, 101 patients with nondialytic (stage 2, 3, 4, and 5 ND) chronic kidney disease (CKD), and 38 healthy individuals as a control group were included. YKL-40 levels were measured by ELISA. Endothelial dysfunction was indirectly measured by flow-mediated dilatation percentage (FMD) in the brachial artery. Results: YKL-40 levels were higher in CKD patients than controls and highest in HD patients (P = 0.001). FMD values were lower in nondialytic CKD patients and lowest in HD patients (P = 0.001). …
