Pharmacologic Therapy In Temporomandibular Disorders, Burim Kiseri
UBT International Conference
The temporomandibular disorders (TMD) etiology is multifactorial and it affects the most important functions, such as eating, speaking, and facial expressions, and are usually accompanied by pain which results in distress for the patient. Despite the extensive studies in the management of TMD, which is commonly a multidisciplinary approach and the most commonly used steroidal or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, myorelaxant, tricyclic antidepressants, anticonvulsants and anxiolytics have been proven to be successful for related inflammatory, disc interference disorders only and neuropathic pain, but are still not an appropriate solution for definitive treatments and still carries risk due to their side effect profiles. …
Influence Of The Post Space Preparation On The Rest Filling In Endodontically Treated Teeth, Valdet Iseini
Influence Of The Post Space Preparation On The Rest Filling In Endodontically Treated Teeth, Valdet Iseini
UBT International Conference
Endodontic treatment is usually indicated for teeth that are carious, severely damaged or fractured. In such teeth, making a post and a crown is indicated. Although the main purpose of the post is to strengthen the structure of the tooth and the possibility of extending the stump, it is equally important not to introduce reinfection into the canal during operation, but also to prevent the micropermeability of the remaining part of the canal filling. The post space preparation involves the removal of the gutta-percha and cementum from the coronary and middle thirds of the root canal, but it can often …

Secondary Caries Susceptibility In Prosthodontics Correlated To Marginal Gap, Gordana Kovacevska
Secondary Caries Susceptibility In Prosthodontics Correlated To Marginal Gap, Gordana Kovacevska
UBT International Conference
Introduction: Secondary caries of abutment teeth is an unwanted complication during prosthodontics treatment and the main reason for the replacement of FPD restorations. Marginal gap space in fixed restorations is responsible for micro-leakage and cement decomposition with caries appearance due to specific demineralization process by bacteria colonization. The aim of the study was to evaluate caries lesions in correlation to the crown marginal gap.
Material and methods: Marginal gap between the abutment tooth and the crown was measured using a light-body silicone for evaluating of absolute discrepancy with replica technique (RT). Twenty porcelain fused to metal crowns were fabricated on …

The Role Of Pannexin 3 In Forced Exercise Bone Remodelling And Its Potential Implications For Osteoarthritis, Justin Tang
The Role Of Pannexin 3 In Forced Exercise Bone Remodelling And Its Potential Implications For Osteoarthritis, Justin Tang
Undergraduate Student Research Internships Conference
Exercise such as running has been hypothesized to be a factor of osteoarthritis development. However, the relationship is unclear as differences in genetic backgrounds may influence the risk of osteoarthritis (OA). The gene Panx3 codes for the Pannexin 3 protein (PANX3), a mechanically sensitive channel that allows for the passage of various signalling molecules in both chondrocytes and osteoblasts (Boassa et al., 2007; Penuela et al., 2013; Zhang et al., 2021). We have previously shown PANX3 to be protective in traumatic osteoarthritis, however beneficial in age-induced osteoarthritis (Moon et al., 2021), suggesting that PANX3’s role in osteoarthritis development …

Safety Of Silver Oxide Coated Biomaterials In Mice, Michael Klug, Darien L. Seidman, Rahyan Mahmoud, Destiny Morot, Lei Yu, Jeffrey D Hettinger, Renee M Demarest
Rowan-Virtua Research Day
It has been demonstrated that silver oxide coatings designed by our collaborators are able to prevent E. coli and P. aeruginosa attachment to biomaterials in vivo. These findings demonstrate that such coatings show promise in preventing the development of biofilm on biodevices. However, it is unknown if the use of silver oxide in this fashion is toxic in vivo. The goal of this project was to determine whether our silver oxide coatings are safe to use in vivo. To assess the toxicity of our silver oxide formula, mice were implanted with either silver oxide coated titanium discs or uncoated titanium …

B1: Determination Of Reliability And Practicality Of Saliva As A Genetic Source By Analyzing Dna Yield In Forensic Investigation : A Systematic Review”, G Sujatha, J Muruganandhan
Annual Research Symposium
Background
Genetic analysis has become the mainstay of forensic identification protocols. Oral fluids including saliva are invariably present in crime and disaster scenarios; their availability probably exceeding that of conventional sources like blood. Due to the intrinsic nature of fluids, the substrates may be degraded due to time delay and environmental exposure. Therefore, a review of the reliability and practicality of saliva in forensic analysis is warranted.
Objectives
This review is designed and planned to present and critically analyze the most relevant clinical trials on the application of saliva in forensic settings in order to assess the reliability of saliva …

Abstract
Background and Objectives
Visual treatment objectives (VTOs) predict the effects that different hard tissue movements can have on a person’s facial soft tissue. This is a powerful tool that can provide doctors with a visual prediction of what a patient would look like through various surgical and orthodontic movements while also providing a means to effectively communicate with patients. Initially, VTOs were drawn by hand, but technological innovations have provided the ability to …
