Introduction

Anxiety and depression are prevalent after a stroke.1,2 Peer support is a non-pharmacologic intervention utilized to manage post-stroke anxiety and depression with inconsistent results.3 Reminiscence therapy is an intervention that has been studied in the dementia population but is a relatively new intervention for the stroke population and has the potential to impact the psychological care provided to stroke patients.4

Introduction:

• The COVID-19 pandemic had a severe effect on mental health, heightening the prevalence and severity of anxiety and depression amongst the general population in rural and non-rural areas, particularly youth.

• Most reports draw from available data from mental health referrals, hospitalizations, suicides, and other incident data

• There is limited longitudinal information from general population samples using standardized mental health assessments.

Self-care is individualized and best done when awarded on a small scale.

Goals:

For all employees of the ICU to:

  • Feel valued outside of work
  • Be recognized for taking care of themselves
  • Participate in positive discussions
  • Be rewarded for work life balance
  • Be reminded of self-care
  • Not feel alone with their thoughts
  • Pause and reflect
  • Help others, spouses, kids, etc.

Future plans include:

  • Seasonal questions of things to see, places to explore
  • Recipe sharing
  • Hobby experts
  • Focusing on staffs' interests

Family Medicine Clerkship Student Projects

Anxiety affects up to 1/3 of the population in their lifetime. The geriatric population is especially susceptible to anxiety due to comorbid conditions and limitations in mobility. Anxiety is also difficult to identify, with mental health literacy with regards to anxiety being limited. This project aims to education patients on common symptoms of anxiety and at home interventions that can be initiated with helping to manage anxiety.
