Host Immune Responses And Peritumoral Stromal Reactions In Different Basal Cell Carcinoma Subtypes: Histopathological Comparison Of Basosquamous Carcinoma And High-Risk And Low-Risk Basal Cell Carcinoma Subtypes, Ni̇lay Duman, Ni̇lay Şen Korkmaz, Zafer Erol

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: The literature does not include sufficient data on the associations between host immune responses and stromal reactions in different basal cell carcinoma (BCC) subtypes. The aim of the study was to compare host immune responses and stromal reactions between basosquamous carcinoma (BSC) and high-risk (HR) and low-risk (LR) BCC subtypes. Materials and methods: The study included 35 BSC, 40 HR-BCC, and 40 LR-BCC patients. Age, sex, lesion location, density of peritumoral/adjacent perivascular inflammation, presence of lymphoid follicle formation, and stromal reaction type were compared between groups. Results: In all 3 groups, age, sex distribution, and lesion location were similar. …

Effects Of Crocin On Experimental Obesity And Type-2 Diabetes, Ömer Hazman, Laçi̇ne Aksoy, Ahmet Büyükben

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: The aim of this study is to scrutinize the effects of crocin on obesity and type-2 diabetes, with an approach that takes oxidative stress and inflammatory parameters into account. Materials and methods: The experimental obesity model was created by utilizing a 10-week-long high-fat diet (HFD). An experimental type-2 diabetes model was created by injecting multiple low-dose streptozocin (STZ) injections into rats that were fed with the HFD. The treatment groups were administered a daily crocin dose of 150 mg/kg for 6 weeks via gavage. Results: Findings of the study demonstrated that crocin could be effective in relieving the symptoms …

Association Of Neutrophil/Lymphocyte Ratio With The Degree Ofinterstitial Lung Disease In Systemic Sclerosis, Nurhan Ati̇lla, Gözde Yildirim Çeti̇n, Ayşe Balkarli

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: Determining the severity of systemic sclerosis related interstitial lung disease (SSc-ILD) is based on clinical and radiological findings, inflammation marker levels, and carbon monoxide diffusing capacity of the lung (DLCO). Recently studies are ongoing for objective and easy markers. Neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is shown to be a good marker for inflammation in recent clinical trials. In this study, we aimed to identify the possible relationship between NLR and carbon monoxide transfer coefficient (KCO) of SSc-ILD patients. Materials and methods: Fifty-nine patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) were enrolled in the study. We used high-resolution computed tomography for diagnosis and used …
