The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
The purpose of this study was to report on the incidence of patellar luxation in 128 dogs out of a total of 317dogs (40.3%) treated at orthopedic clinics in Chiang Mai, Thailand, from October 2006 through May 2011. Patellarluxation was most frequently found in small breeds, among which Poodles were the most commonly affected (34.3%).Most luxations were medial (89%), and 57.8% of affected dogs were female. Uniluxation of the patella was found in63%, and biluxation in 37%. Most dogs were classified as patellar luxation grade III. Cranial cruciate ligament rupturewas found only in medial patellar luxation grade IV. This study …

Investigation Of The Relationship Between Endometrial Mmp Activities And Sex Hormones In Mature Bitches, Wei-Yau Shia, Po-Chen Chu, Chih-Chung Chou, Wei-Ming Lee
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
Endometrial matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are extensively studied in humans. However, owing to thedistinct differences of the estrous cycle of bitches, the expression and activities of endometrial MMPs regulated by sexhormones should be significantly different. To understand the effect of sex hormones on the activity of MMPs, thisstudy investigates the activities of endometrial MMP-2 and MMP-9 during different phases of the estrous cycle inbitches through the use of gelatine zymography. Estradiol and progesterone concentrations were also determinedusing enzyme-linked fluorescent assay. The activities of the latent forms of both MMP-2 and -9 were significantlyhigher in metestrus (MP) and late diestrus phases (L-DP) …

Blood pressure, renal function, urinary protein excretion and red blood cell count were measured in 29 dogswith chronic kidney disease which received hormone recombinant human Erythropoietin (rHuEPO). The experimentwas divided into 2 parts. Parts 1 comprised 3 groups of dogs. Group 1 dogs were studied prior to erythropoietin(EPO) injection (pre-EPO). Group 2 dogs received EPO 100 U/kg 2-3 times a week. Group 3 dogs received both EPOand angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor which was enalapril 5 mg/kg/daily. The duration of medication wasbetween 7 to 40 days. In part 2 of the experiment, all parameters were measured in the same dogs before …

Bartonella hensalae is a causative agent of cat scratch disease that has serious zoonotic potential for people. The aim of the present study is to examine seroprevalence of antibodies against B. hensalae in cats and dogs along thenorthern borders of Thailand in Chiangrai, Maehongson and Nan provinces using the indirect fluorescent antibodytest (IFA). A total of 169 serum samples derived from 56 cats and 113 dogs were collected from 3 provinces along thenorthern borders of Thailand. It was found that the average percentage of positive rate to B. henselae in Chiangrai,Maehongson and Nan provinces was 73.0%, 52.0% and 0.0%, respectively with …
