Preconception Care For Women With Pregestational Diabetes: Information For The Family Nurse Practitioner, Kathryn Conover Morrill

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to evaluate present literature and guidelines regarding preconception care for women with type I diabetes mellitus (T1DM) or type II diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and familiarize the family nurse practitioner (FNP) with current clinical recommendations. Data Sources: The guidelines reviewed include the Clinical Practice Recommendations from the American Diabetes Association 2013, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists pregestational diabetes mellitus guideline reaffirmed in 2010, and the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence on how to manage diabetes and its complications from preconception to the postnatal period 2008.
