U.S. public school teachers of all educational levels were challenged during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide education to students in alternative ways; face-to-face, hybrid model, or remote learning. This resulted in teacher stress, dissatisfaction, and turnover. Locally, after the 2020-2021 school year at East Iredell Middle School, 9 out of 22 educators resigned or transferred due to the stress and fatigue of teaching students in a hybrid model during the COVID-19 pandemic. Background
The AANA has identified stress management or wellness as a priority for all CRNA programs. The Health and Wellness Initiative put in place by the AANA in 2004 is a model designed for all SRNA programs and intended to address students’ participation in wellness events in order to combat stressors.
The primary purpose of this project was to gain information about the stress faced by SRNAs enrolled at a Midwestern University and to evaluate strategies that could help students properly deal with stress.

Workplace wellness is a critical aspect within an organization. Failure to encourage and meet the wellness needs of staff can lead to increased absenteeism, decreased productivity, as well as increased stress levels. Improved workplace wellness in an academic setting has not only potential positive impact on employees but also the students they teach. Evidence shows that implementing wellness initiatives in academic settings has the potential to improve the overall wellbeing of teachers as well as students. Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists (SRNAs) begin graduate school as confident critical care nurses, unaware of the impact that constant, daily stress will have on their lives. Wildgust (1986) presented the earliest known research and concluded stress negatively impacted the physiologic wellbeing of SRNAs. It has been reported that students in anesthesia programs experiencing high levels of stress and burnout are more likely to make critical errors when caring for their patients (de Oliveira, 2013).
