Abstract

Background: Many women who suffer from substance use disorder syndrome (SUDS) have low self-esteem and can be labeled as “unfit parents” which can impede infant bonding and maternal sobriety. Parent and self-efficacy are associated with improved maternal-infant attachment and sobriety (Adams, et.al. 2021). The earlier prenatal education is implemented, the more empowered the mothers will feel to be able to help their infants and themselves.

Setting: A medically assisted treatment center (MAT) for pregnant women who presents with SUDS. The six-bed inpatient facility is in a rural county in central Kentucky.

Background: There is a lack of standardization for car safety seat education to caregivers before hospital discharge. Nationally, 59% of motor vehicle accident deaths occur because the car seat is misused (Greenwall, 2015). The American Academy of Pediatrics (1999) states this is a gap in care because all caregivers need to receive proper car safety seat instruction before discharge. Purpose: This quality improvement project aimed to increase nursing self-efficacy and compliance of registered nurses (RNs) by implementing a standardized CSS discharge intervention. The American College of Cardiology (ACC) and American Heart Association (AHA) revealed common errors made by healthcare professionals when measuring blood pressure (BP) in adult inpatients. These errors include using incorrectly sized cuffs, improper cuff placement, and inappropriate patient positioning. Inconsistent cuff sizes and position lead to underestimated and overestimated results, directly impacting patient care and outcomes. Additionally, the ACC/AHA identified patient position and talking during assessments as factors that directly impact the accuracy of the results.
