An Investigation Of Between-Ear Tympanometry Measures In Normal-Hearing Young Adults, Barry Lynn Kimmel Aug 1972

An Investigation Of Between-Ear Tympanometry Measures In Normal-Hearing Young Adults, Barry Lynn Kimmel

Dissertations and Theses

In recent years, tympanometry has been used to provide objective and definitive information regarding the status of middle ear conditions and functions. The present standard for tympanometric normalcy is based upon between-subject measures. This standard, however, does not allow precise differentiation between normal and pathological tympanometry curves. A within-subject comparison of right and left ear tympanometry curves of normal-hearing subjects could provide a narrow standard of tympanometric normalcy which would be more useful in differentiating between pathologic and non-pathologic middle ear function. The within-subject relationship between tympanometry curves for right and left ears was investigated by comparing the individual right …

Effects Of Certain Linguistic Parameters Upon The Responses Of Preschool Subjects To Specific Dichotic Listening Tasks, Peggy J. Weber Jul 1972

Effects Of Certain Linguistic Parameters Upon The Responses Of Preschool Subjects To Specific Dichotic Listening Tasks, Peggy J. Weber

Dissertations and Theses

Listening, as a communication skill, is an essential factor in the normal language development of the' child. Until recently, however, there has been very little research conducted concerning the linguistic parameters that influence the ability to listen. Thus, this investigation was designed to study the effects of two linguistic parameters, construction and semantic constraints on the verbal responses of preschool children in a dichotic listening task.

Fifteen children, between the ages of 5-3 to 6-8, were presented with four dichotic listening tasks consisting of 80 stimuli, (40 sentences and 40 pseudo-sentences). The children were asked to report the message delivered …

The Effects Of Training At Two Specified Intensities Upon Heart Rate Response To Submaximal Exercise, Gordon Leverne Noraine Jul 1972

The Effects Of Training At Two Specified Intensities Upon Heart Rate Response To Submaximal Exercise, Gordon Leverne Noraine

Dissertations and Theses

The relationship between training intensities and fitness gains was selected as a topic for analysis in this study. Forty-six college men served as subjects in one of three groups: a jogging, or moderate intensity, training group, a running, or high intensity, training group, or a control group. All subjects were pre- and post-tested on the Astrand Bike Ergometer Work Test where working heart rates were measured and recorded. The two training groups participated in at least thirteen training sessions between these testing days, in which two miles were covered at the correct intensity level for each subject at each training …

An Investigation Of Temporary Threshold Shift Among Helmeted Motorcycle Riders, Alamander Hicks Jul 1972

An Investigation Of Temporary Threshold Shift Among Helmeted Motorcycle Riders, Alamander Hicks

Dissertations and Theses

The purpose of the present study involved the investigation of the significance of wind noise as a contributing factor toward temporary threshold shifts among a select sample of motorcycle riders. Five ' normal-hearing, helmeted, female subjects were administered pure-tone air-conduction hearing tests immediately before and within 2 minutes after exposure to three noise-related aspects of motorcycle riding. The amount of ,hearing loss present at 3k, 4k and 6k Hz after each 20 minute exposure condition was recorded as the TTS for that subject. The three conditions consisted of motorcycle noise only, wind noise only and motorcycle and wind noise combined. …

Comparison Of Amounts Of Verbal Response Elicited By A Speech Pathologist And A Mother In The Clinic, Sherry Lee Nelson Feb 1972

Comparison Of Amounts Of Verbal Response Elicited By A Speech Pathologist And A Mother In The Clinic, Sherry Lee Nelson

Dissertations and Theses

One of the primary responsibilities of a speech pathologist is the assessment of a child's language. Many studies have been done in the area of language development. The results of these studies have varied causing concern among researchers over the validity of the data gathered. Many factors that could affect the results of previous research have been investigated. Until recently, however, there has been relatively little research about the effects of examiner differences on the results of language assessments.

Research in the area of examiner differences has resulted in the discovery of factors which could affect the results of language …

The Effect Of Glucose On The Food Intake Of Goldthioglucose Injected Mice, Janet Lahti Jan 1972

The Effect Of Glucose On The Food Intake Of Goldthioglucose Injected Mice, Janet Lahti

Dissertations and Theses

Jean Mayer has postulated the presence of glucoreceptors located primarily in the ventromedial hypothalamic nuclei of the brain which are activated by glucose in the measure that they utilize it. According to Mayer, hunger occurs when glucose is not available for metabolic purposes and satiation supervenes when glucose is made available. Control of this mechanism rests with the glucoreceptors. These receptors are believed to be destroyed when an injection of the compound goldthioglucose is given to mice. These animals subsequently become obese and are found to have gold deposits and lesions in the ventromedial area and also in other parts …

A Descriptive Study Of Educational Background, Contraceptive Knowledge, And Choice Of Agency Among Selected Girls 18 Years Old And Under Seeking An Abortion At The University Of Oregon Medical School, Carol A. Carter, Lititia J. Kirk, Jane F. Ogier

Dissertations and Theses

This study was conducted at the University of Oregon Medical School located in Portland, Oregon. This school has performed many abortions since Oregon liberalized its abortion law in 1969. Testing Of A Design For Client Evaluation Of A Conciliation Service, James A. Dudley, James C. Euler, Peter Njoroge, Richard Streissguth Jan 1972

Testing Of A Design For Client Evaluation Of A Conciliation Service, James A. Dudley, James C. Euler, Peter Njoroge, Richard Streissguth

Dissertations and Theses

This study is an attempt to develop, design, and implement procedures for better data collection in the future and for an evaluation of the services provided in the past.

Conciliation Courts have developed across the country on the notion that case work services can, at best, save a marriage from divorce and, at least, can do no harm. Evaluation of the effectiveness of conciliation services is limited and contradictory.

This practicum is an attempt to develop a research design which can measure the effectiveness of conciliation service. We consider the first priority to develop a workable design which will insure …
