Background: Hypertension is an important risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Spot echocardiography is a sensitive, noninvasive method to detect early regional and global myocardial dysfunction that cannot be detected with traditional 2D echocardiography visualization.

Aim: To evaluate the association between structural and functional changes in the left ventricle and the burden of coronary artery disease in hypertensive patients using speckle-traced echocardiography.

Patients and Methods: 60 patients underwent elective coronary angiography, all hypertensive and consented to spot-trace echocardiography. They were recruited from the catheterization unit of the Department of Cardiology at Al-Azhar University Hospital.

Results: There is a statistically …

Background and aim: Homocysteine and adropin effects on endothelial function are antagonistic. The current study aimed to evaluate the association between serum levels of adropin and homocysteine and the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD) . Patients and methods: This cross-sectional study included 86 patients submitted to coronary angiography with ≥ 50% stenosis in one or more coronary arteries. Serum Adropin and homocysteine levels were estimated. The anatomical synergy between percutaneous coronary intervention with taxus and cardiac surgery (SYNTAX) score was utilized to assess the severity of CAD. Results: According to serum homocysteine levels, they were classified into patients with …

Comparative Study Between Nano-Surface Polyzene F And Drug Eluting Stents In Acute Coronary Syndrome Patients With One-Month Dual Antiplatelet Therapy: Immediate And One-Year Clinical Outcome., Hazem Arnous, Mamdouh Eltahhan, Taghreed Ahmad, Ahmad Fahmy, Mansour . Sallam Jan 2023

Comparative Study Between Nano-Surface Polyzene F And Drug Eluting Stents In Acute Coronary Syndrome Patients With One-Month Dual Antiplatelet Therapy: Immediate And One-Year Clinical Outcome., Hazem Arnous, Mamdouh Eltahhan, Taghreed Ahmad, Ahmad Fahmy, Mansour . Sallam

Al-Azhar International Medical Journal

Background and objectives:

The current clinical practice advocates dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) for a year after ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), primarily owing to persistent thrombotic risk. The novel COBRA PzF coronary stent was developed to reduce stent thrombosis risk. The primary goal of the current research was to compare the efficacy and safety of the novel nanocoated PzF stenting with one-month DAPT (dual anti-platelet therapy) against 12-month DAPT after the current drug- eluting stent (DES) in STEMI patients and single-vessel coronary artery disease (CAD).

Patients & methods:

A prospective observational study enrolled 100 cases presented with STEMI and …
