Currently iontophoresis is used by many physical therapists on a variety of pathological conditions. Therefore, therapists must have a thorough understanding of this modality as to provide the best, most efficient care possible to our patients.

The purpose of this study is to provide clinicians with a review of the available literature on iontophoresis in physical therapy. The history and principles of iontophoresis are briefly discussed, followed by a review of the clinically performed studies.
