Existing research regarding the analysis of the distribution of oral healthcare practitioners has been conducted across large metropolitan areas within the United States in order to determine the magnitude of healthcare resource deficits. Such research has demonstrated significant deficits in access to oral healthcare predominantly in lower-income urban areas. Consequently, patients in these socioeconomically disadvantaged areas have less access to routine oral care, which impacts their overall health and well-being. With a growing number of medical malpractice suits and the passage of policy that focuses on patient advocacy, an emphasis has been placed on research regarding the decision-making processes of physicians in everyday practices. Previous research regarding the analysis of the current healthcare professional workforce has been done in the state of Nebraska in order to determine to magnitude of healthcare resource deficits among different counties and populations, and research has shown that deficits are severe in the field of physical therapy primarily in rural counties.
