Incidence rates of HIV have decreased in the United States in the past decade, but the southern United States has higher rates of HIV than other regions, and cities in the south, like Washington D.C., have some of the highest rates of HIV incidence in the nation. Risky sexual behavior, needle sharing, and substance use increase the risk of transmitting or acquiring HIV, and these behaviors are more common among unhoused people (CDC, 2021; CPPH, 2022).

Memphis, Tennessee has higher rates of black men who have sex with men living with human immunodeficiency (BMSMLWH) compared to state and national levels. ART has been shown to be effective in keeping people living with HIV virally suppressed and unable to transmit HIV through sex. However, BMSMLWH are disproportionately affected by HIV than other races in Memphis, Tennesee. The proposed program relies on evidence-based data that demonstrates the effectiveness of video-based intervention in improving medication adherence and HIV retention of care. The transmission of HIV within the city of Chicago has been established as a major health concern: however, the lack of adequate resources has created gaps within current programming available for people living with HIV. Healthy Living People (HLP) is an evidence-based program focused on reducing the transmission of HIV through strengthening adherence to antiretroviral therapy and decreasing number of higher risk sexual encounters. In 2015, a rural Indiana county experienced an outbreak of HIV related to intravenous drug use. 181 people were diagnosed with HIV between Oct. 1, 2014 and Nov. 1, 2015. This outbreak prompted the state legislature to implement a policy that legalized syringe exchange programs for the first time ever in Indiana. This capstone attempts to summarize the situation that led to the creation of this policy and the effects of this policy, Indiana Senate Enrolled Act 461 (IN SEA 461). Objective: The purpose of this study is to examine the associations between interpersonal partner violence (IPV), HIV risks, and depression among a sample of adolescent females who have sex with men and women.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using data from the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS). YRBSS data was obtained from representative samples of students in grades 9-12. The study sample was comprised of adolescent and young women who self-identified as having sex with men and women (WSMW)(N=526). Empowerment plays a major role in sexual violence and HIV among women worldwide. Findings on empowerment in relation to domestic violence or HIV are scarce and are conflicting. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between empowerment and HIV status by means of sexual violence, and to compare this relationship between previously married women (N = 2,658) and currently married women (N = 37,539) living in India. The Baron and Kenny mediated regression model was used, involving simple logistic and multiple logistic regression, drawing from the National Family Health Survey 2005-2006 (NFHS-3).
