Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: To compare the effectiveness of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) and extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) used in myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) and to determine whether they are superior to conservative treatment (CT). Materials and methods: A total of 42 female patients (aged 18-60 years) diagnosed with MPS were enrolled and randomly assigned to either the CT (n = 14), CT+IASTM (n = 14), or CT+ESWT group (n = 14). All of the groups received treatment for 3 weeks (CT: 5 sessions per week, 15 sessions in total, ESWT and IASTM: 2 sessions per week, 6 sessions in total). …

Effect Of Thoracic Mobilization Exercises On Hamstring Flexibility: A Randomized Controlled Trial, Aybüke Ersi̇n, Meltem Kaya Oct 2023

Effect Of Thoracic Mobilization Exercises On Hamstring Flexibility: A Randomized Controlled Trial, Aybüke Ersi̇n, Meltem Kaya

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background and aim: The aim was to investigate the effect of thoracic mobilization exercises on hamstring flexibility. Materials and methods: One hundred twenty individuals with hamstring tightness were included in the study. The participants were randomized into two groups: the experimental group (EG) (n = 60) or the control group (CG) (n = 60). The EG performed a homebased thoracic mobilization exercise program comprising 2 sets with 10 repetitions, once a day, 3 days a week, for 4 weeks. The CG performed active-assisted stretching of the hamstring comprising 3 sets with 10 repetitions for 15 seconds. The active knee extension …

Do The Presence, Size, And Shape Of Plantar Calcaneal Spurs Have Any Significance In Terms Of Pain And Treatment Outcomes In Patients With Plantar Fasciitis?, Mehmet Okçu, Fi̇gen Tuncay, Fatmanur Aybala Koçak, Yakup Erden, Mustafa Yemli̇ha Ayhan, Samet Sancar Kaya Jan 2023

Do The Presence, Size, And Shape Of Plantar Calcaneal Spurs Have Any Significance In Terms Of Pain And Treatment Outcomes In Patients With Plantar Fasciitis?, Mehmet Okçu, Fi̇gen Tuncay, Fatmanur Aybala Koçak, Yakup Erden, Mustafa Yemli̇ha Ayhan, Samet Sancar Kaya

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the presence, size, or type of calcaneal spurs on pain or the outcomes of extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) therapy in patients with plantar fasciitis. Materials and methods: Seventy-four patients with unilateral plantar fasciitis who had no pain in the contralateral foot, either currently or in the past, were included in the study. The length, base width, type, and presence of plantar calcaneal spurs in both heels of the patients were determined using radiography. A total of five sessions of ESWT (3 bar, 2000 shocks/session, 12 Hz frequency) …
