Bsn Students' Perceptions Of Communication With Patients With Hallucinations After Experiencing A Voice Simulation And Role Play, Peggy Fossen Aug 2014

Bsn Students' Perceptions Of Communication With Patients With Hallucinations After Experiencing A Voice Simulation And Role Play, Peggy Fossen

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

Abstract Nursing students experience anxiety, uncertainty, and fear when faced with communicating with mentally ill patients, specifically those with auditory hallucinations. Nurse educators are aware that anxiety is a major obstacle in the clinical setting, and may decrease learning (Melincavage, 2011). First year nursing students in a baccalaureate-nursing program at a Midwestern University expressed anxiety and knowledge deficit related to communicating with mentally ill patients. The research question for this study was: In BSN students in their first mental health class how does completing a voice simulation and role-play affect students' perceptions of communication with patients with auditory hallucinations? The …

A Comparison Of The Effects Of Simulation Training And Non-Simulation Training On Self-Efficacy In Providing Women's Health Care, Cindy D. Heden Oct 2013

A Comparison Of The Effects Of Simulation Training And Non-Simulation Training On Self-Efficacy In Providing Women's Health Care, Cindy D. Heden

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

The Veterans Administration (VA) recognizes that proficiency in the core concepts of primary care women's health is required to provide comprehensive primary care for women. A potentially superior form of training that has been recently used for care providers is simulation. The examination of the relationship between simulation training through the Mini-Residency Course and increased self-efficacy among Women's Health Primary Care Providers (WH-PCP) is important, as the Mini-Residency Course is designed specifically to fill knowledge gaps and enhance the participant's knowledge and skill.

A single post-test only, two group design was used for this study. The experimental group included those …

The retention of pre-licensure baccalaureate nursing students is one of the critical components in resolving the present healthcare crisis. Peer mentors play an important role in retention of students. The main objective of peer mentoring was to support a nursing student making the transition to a university setting and to nursing education. Gilmour, Kopeikin, and Douche (2007) described peer mentoring as a key strategy for support of nursing students. Mentoring is a complex process requiring development of purposeful relationships underpinned by knowledge and experience. This capstone project's purpose was designed and implemented to determine if a mentor training program for …

Abstract Nursing students may experience difficulty tmnsitioning from being competent in the campus lab environment to being capable in a clinical environment when the campus lab experience does not offer realistic challenges. Students have the knowledge of how to safely perform the skills but cannot demonstrate the skills, utilizing clinical reasoning, in the unstable and unpredictable hospital environment. Traditional campus lab instruction for medication administration includes small group practice that is task oriented in a stable and predictable environment. Progressive simulation challenges the student with utilization of multiple levels of simulation incorporating clinical reasoning .. The goal of this project …

Utilizing High Fidelity Simulation To Enhance Nursing Students' Level Of Self-Efficacy In Caring For Patients And Their Families In Their End Of Life Journey, Joann Gjellum Crownover Apr 2012

Utilizing High Fidelity Simulation To Enhance Nursing Students' Level Of Self-Efficacy In Caring For Patients And Their Families In Their End Of Life Journey, Joann Gjellum Crownover

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

Abstract Background: Thc nurse impacts the EOL journey for both the patient and family members more than any other healthcare provider. Many nurses believe that they are inadequately prepared and lack confidence in providing care to dying patients and family. Research has shown that there are major deficiencies in EOL education for nurses. Design: This Capstone Project assessed the pedagogical effectiveness of utilizing hybrid high fidelity simulation to enhance the self-efficacy of senior level baccalaureate nursing students in caring for dying patients and their families. This innovative educational strategy was evaluated using a descriptive study design to determine the students' …
