Painting A Landscape Of Acute Care Nurse Scientist Work, Teresa Rangel Mar 2024

Painting A Landscape Of Acute Care Nurse Scientist Work, Teresa Rangel

Providence Nursing Research Conference 2023 – Present

Background: Hospitals are increasingly hiring nurse scientists, motivated in part by nursing excellence designations such as Magnet. Magnet designation requires at least three, nurse-led, Institutional Review Board-approved research studies to be conducted in the hospital every four years and for nurses to be actively implementing evidence-based practice (EBP) projects using research evidence. However, clinical nurses often lack the specialized knowledge and training necessary to engage in well-designed research or EBP. Nurse scientists are PhD-prepared individuals with expertise to mentor clinical nurses to navigate the rigor and complexity of creating, implementing, analyzing, and disseminating research and EBP projects. Yet, due …

Interprofessional Collaboration Optimizes Oncology Navigation Efficiency And Value, Lauri Ledbeter, Whitney Daws, Rebekah Hart, Lindsay Shimizu

Providence Nursing Research Conference 2023 – Present

Background: Oncology navigation programs have evolved to include services for addressing cancer care barriers, focusing on care coordination, patient experience, and care value, and may include nurses, social workers, and non-licensed trained workers as care navigators. The 2023 Enhancing Oncology Payment Model (EOPM) requires navigation services and emphasizes improving care value and outcomes. Effective healthcare navigation and collaboration can improve value by reducing care duplication, missed appointments, and emergency admissions; identifying and addressing health-related social needs; addressing health inequities; and improving time-to-treatment initiation and patient retention. The Institute of Medicine also advocates for healthcare professionals to work interprofessionally, implement quality …

Podium Presentation: Impact Of An Interprofessional Culture Of Mobility Training On Documentation Of Patient Mobility Activities, Dawn Doud, Micah Kaluzny, Ryan Houser, Teresa Bigand

2022 Providence Nurse Research Conference

Background:

Adults, and particularly elder adults, suffer many adverse consequences when restricted to the bed with no mobility activities for extended periods of time. During a hospital visit, adults are often subjected to bedrest inappropriately, contributing to outcomes such as hospital-acquired infections or injury, muscle wasting, or falls with injury. All outcomes may cause an increased length of stay and risk likelihood of discharge to an extended care facility versus home. At one community-based hospital, a needs assessment revealed several staff self-reported barriers to mobilizing patients. Simultaneously, no evidence-based practice mobility program existed within the hospital.

Purpose:

The purpose of …
