Intro:
Historical studies have shown that health disparities exist between urban and rural communities, however additional disparities are also known to exist within rural communities as well. These include health disparities between races, ethnicities, and socioeconomic statuses, among others. While the disparities between urban and rural communities have been researched and described more extensively, there is a paucity of information available about the disparities that exist within rural communities. INTRODUCTION: The United States currently stands as an epicenter for different identities noting variations across people in ethnicity, religion, gender, and socioeconomic status. Further intersectionality among these identities creates a diverse population of individuals subsequently reflected in the field of healthcare, one of the largest systems that encompass modern society. Medical education plays a notable role in the progression of healthcare as students are the early implementers of future healthcare systems. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 many students experienced sudden lifestyle adjustments. These adjustments included not having reliable access to an internet source to complete their coursework. In an effort to soften the pandemic’s blow the library secured a grant to purchase, manage, and circulate mobile wifi hotspots to students in need. For the pilot eleven hotspots were purchased for one campus, and due to the success of the pilot now all three campuses of PCOM are loaning out a total of twenty-eight hotspots.
