An Investigation Of Oral Sex As A Risk Factor For Recurrent Vaginitis: A Case Study, Humza M. Baig, Kate B. Barker, Joy Zarandy

Research Day

Background:

Recurrent Vaginitis is defined as having three or more confirmed episodes within a year. Recurrence rates of vaginitis have been reported in up to 60% of previously infected women. The most common bacterial cause is due to Gardnerella vaginalis, while Candida albicans is the most common fungal cause; both microorganisms can cause opportunistic infections when imbalances occur in the vaginal environment. Commonly known risk factors include multiple sex partners, unprotected sex, douching, recent antibiotic use, and estrogen therapy.

Case Presentation:

A healthy 34-year-old female is complaining of recurrent episodes of vaginitis since the birth of her son two years …

Research Day

Introduction: A growing body of research suggests that an infants’ admission to a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is associated with adverse maternal mental health outcomes. Maternal attitudes, adjustment to motherhood, social support, and health behaviors may be important modifiable factors that could improve quality of life and well-being among NICU mothers. The current study examined the relationships among maternal attitudes, adjustment to motherhood, health behaviors, social support, and psychological functioning in NICU mothers.

Methods: One hundred twenty-seven women were recruited from NICUs at three hospitals in the Philadelphia area and completed self-report measures while in the NICU. Descriptive analyses …

Anterior Cervical Foraminotomy: Short Term Outcomes In Patients With Isolated Cervical Radiculopathy, Howard Eisenbrock, Mark Rivkin, Amir R. Dehdashti May 2014

Anterior Cervical Foraminotomy: Short Term Outcomes In Patients With Isolated Cervical Radiculopathy, Howard Eisenbrock, Mark Rivkin, Amir R. Dehdashti

Research Day

Intro: Anterior cervical foraminotomy (ACF) is a novel approach involving direct decompression of nerve from an offending agent without fusion. Historically, several anterior and posterior approaches were utilized to treat cervical radiculopathy. Anterior cervical discectomy necessitates fusion and is subject to adjacent segment disease as well as loss of ROM. Posterior laminoforaminotomy seldom allows for removal of disc fragment and is associated with higher postoperative pain.

Methods: Between May 2010 and March 2013, 16 patients with one or two level cervical spondylosis with radiculopathy without myelopathy who failed conservative therapies such as anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy or injections underwent anterior …
