Interprofessional education (IPE) is defined by AOTA (2015) as an “occasion by which students from two or more professions learn about, from, and with each other to improve collaboration and quality of care”. IPE is closely related to and often overlaps with interprofessional collaboration (IPC) within healthcare settings. IPC “occurs when multiple health workers from different professional backgrounds work together with patients, families, [caregivers], and communities to deliver the highest quality of care” (World Health Organization [WHO], 2010, p. 7). The overall aim of IPE is to promote and develop effective IPC thereby improving patient outcomes (Khan, 2016).

Occupational Therapy’S Needs Assessment For Service Navigation For Children With Autism, Kristina Lauren Paula
Occupational Therapy’S Needs Assessment For Service Navigation For Children With Autism, Kristina Lauren Paula
Occupational Therapy Program Student Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Background. This capstone project brings to our attention the importance of occupational therapy’s role in meeting the continued needs of children with autism. As the prevalence of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) continues to increase, so does the disparity in the accessibility of services for children and their families. Therefore, it is imperative to facilitate a diagnostic process and identify the child’s specific needs, to implement early intervention strategies. The medical model of disability, an internationally recognized approach in diagnosing children withautism, views autism as a problem that individually belongs to the child. Although the current medical model is preferred by …

An Investigation Of Service Providers’ Understanding, Perspectives And Implementations Of The Transdisciplinary Model In Early Intervention Settings For Children With Disabilities, Eimear Fitzmaurice, Janet E. Richmond Phd
Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice
Purpose: The transdisciplinary practice model is currently being promoted as best practice in early intervention therapy for children with disabilities. However, supporting literature is limited. Thus, the question is asked, “What are service providers' understanding and perception of the transdisciplinary model in early intervention settings for children with disabilities?” Method: A systematic review was carried out using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews. An electronic search was conducted via six databases. Eight articles were selected. Results: Four studies predominantly focused on service providers’ perspectives of the model using semi-structured interviews or surveys. Many studies were of adequate to low …

Measuring The Playfulness Of Children With Special Needs In Occupational Therapist Led, Caregiver-Included Community Playgroups, Sarah Fabrizi
Occupational Therapy Program Student Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of community playgroups on the playfulness of children ages 15 months to 3 years with special needs. In addition to playfulness of the child, the sensitivity and responsiveness of the caregiver were examined. A quasi-experimental, pretest-and-posttest, repeated measures design was used to follow eight children and their caregivers receiving early intervention services and taking part in a community playgroup. The children and their caregivers were measured during a 4-week standard-of-care baseline, before and after an 8-week intervention period, and 4 week post-intervention. The Test of Playfulness (ToP) was utilized to …
