Occupational therapy provides a client-centered approach to enhance engagement in valued life occupations. Activities of daily living, specifically eating and swallowing, fulfills basic physiological needs and creates a social relationship between a parent and/or caregiver and their child. Stress associated with caring for children with feeding difficulties can physically and emotionally strain the family. There is a greater need for opportunities to learn more about managing feeding and eating issues in children, especially with varying presentations across multiple conditions seen in the pediatric setting. The aim of this capstone project was to create an ergonomic education program to address new motherhood and their occupations of health management and maintenance, sleep and rest, breastfeeding and other baby care, community mobility, and leisure. This 17-week capstone project was completed at The Parker Place and virtually managed throughout the entirety of the experience. The Parker Place is a pediatric endocrinology and lifestyle management facility located in Annapolis, Maryland. Completing a virtual capstone project did not hinder the progress and outcomes of this experience. The Healthy Habits program was developed at this site to implement an occupational therapy role to supplement the served population’s health and wellness goals. Simulation learning is an online resource that is currently being used in healthcare graduate school programs. It does not replace real-life experience but can provide a controlled environment for students to learn from their mistakes and be better prepared for their rotations. There is a greater need for pediatric simulation learning opportunities, especially during a pandemic. This capstone final culminating project describes how an outpatient pediatric clinic and Simucase, an online simulation video resource, collaborated to create more simulation and video library recordings.
