The incidence of HIV among women of childbearing age in the United States continues to rise. Literature and statistics show that the number of new HIV infections continue to increase, despite the fact that the transmission of the disease is preventable. The purpose of this descriptive study was to describe the current sexual practices on HIV-positive women and to determine whether these behaviors had changed since the diagnosis of HIV. Prevalence rates of known diabetes mellitus continue to increase in the United States. However, studies show that people can reduce their risks of long-term complications by maintaining adequate blood sugar control. Good metabolic control, however, can be very difficult for persons with diabetes because it requires knowledge, motivation, lifestyle adjustments, close monitoring, and ongoing support from a health care team. The purpose of this descriptive study was to compare the prenatal help-seeking behaviors of two ethnic groups of rural women in a southeastern state. Three hypotheses guided the study: Ho^, There will be no relationship between selected demographic variables and help-seeking behaviors in Native Americans; HOg, There will be no relationship between selected demographic variables and help-seeking behaviors in Anglo women; and Ho^, There will be no difference in the factors predicting prenatal help- seeking behavior between Native Americans and Anglo women. This correlational study was designed to describe the relationship between perceived control of health in older adolescents between the ages of 2 0 and 21 years and the likelihood of engaging in health-promoting behaviors. This study was a replication of a study conducted by Mitchell (1987) with adolescents between the ages of 16 and 19 years. The theoretical framework for the study was predicated on Pender's Health Promotion Model (Pender & Pender, 1986) which propositions that cognitive/perceptual and modifying constituents stimulate an individual's likelihood of engaging in health-promoting behaviors.
