The purpose of this phenomenological study was to understand speech-language pathologists’ (SLP) self-efficacy beliefs toward assessing culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) students within public elementary schools in California. Bandura’s self-efficacy theory guided this study since it evaluated SLPs’ belief in their capacity to manage their motivation, behavior, and social environment to carry out appropriate assessment procedures for CLD students. As not all students from CLD backgrounds are accurately identified, gathering the SLPs’ lived experiences regarding current assessment practices helped provide insight into the appropriate identification of SLI. Millions of Americans live with chronic health conditions which require careful attention and specific actions for optimal management. Chronic Disease Self-Management Education (CDSME) has been effectively utilized to improve health outcomes and quality of life for individuals with chronic disease, enhancing knowledge and self-efficacy. Traditional CDSME programs are less available for rural residents. An examination of successful CDSME programs highlights common interventions that yield success and may be utilized in a variety of settings. As new graduate nurses are challenged with caring for patients with complex disease processes, nurse residency programs are designed to ease the transition into practice. A community based hospital, in the southern United States has recently implemented such a program. However, the organization continues to have problems with nursing turnover. This problem is especially evident in nurses with less than one year of clinical experience. Heart failure is a high mortality, chronic disease that is economically and physiologically costly for patients, caregivers, and society. Heart failure teaching alone is insufficient in meeting the complex self-care needs of the heart failure patient. This project implemented evidence-based teaching methods that are skill-based and problem-solving based to educate heart failure patients in an outpatient setting. The theoretical foundation of this project was Bandura’s theory of self-efficacy and Orem’s theory of self-care. The level of self-care and self-efficacy was assessed before and after the multi-sensory teaching intervention. Self-care and self-efficacy have been studied and shown to be major components …
