Fucoxanthin is a carotenoid sourced and extracted mainly from dark orange and brown seaweeds found in the pacific ocean, such as the wakame algae. The allenic bonds and unique oxygen groups give fucoxanthin its unique structure and are thought to be part of the reason fucoxanthin has unique physiological functions. Fucoxanthin has potentially numerous effects on the physiology of human health, ranging from skin health to metabolic health, which have been demonstrated in animal model research. Strong links have been recognized between sedentary time, higher BMI, and waist circumference among post-operative bariatric surgery patients. The time-efficient aspects of the High Intensity Interval Training show a significant influence in creating a habitual strategic exercise for fighting obesity and controlling compensatory components. Ten post-operative bariatric participants (9 females, 1 male) with BMI of 33.65 ± 2.90 kg/m2, undergoing a 12-week Vigorous Intensity Interval Training (VIIT) program, were assessed for the compensatory mechanisms of sedentary behavior and caloric intake. The literature review that was conducted focuses on exploring the most effective way to prevent development of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) as a late effect of childhood obesity or risk thereof. Our research focused on the 8-10 year old at-risk and obese pediatric populations and whether the use of interactive educational interventions in the community setting can be of use to reduce CVD development and improve overall health status. Our findings determined that interactive educational interventions early in childhood can improve health outcomes for these populations and prevent subsequent development of CVD. Obesity is a growing concern surrounding today’s youth. School-based health screenings are promoted as a public health strategy to identify obese children and those at high risk for becoming obese. In 2007, the CDC reported approximately 12.5 million children and adolescents in the U.S. were obese. Among 24-month old clinically obese children, only 23% were diagnosed as obese. The most concerning is the prevalence of obesity in 6-month olds; 16% of 6-month old infants in the U.S. are obese, of which only 14% are diagnosed as being obese. Previous research concentrates on the factors that influence infant obesity, but does not address the prevalence of diagnosing obesity in children, particularly those under two years of age. Evidence suggests that sprint interval training (SIT) is a time efficient alternative for improving aerobic fitness or insulin sensitivity due to its reduced training volume and is of increasing interest since most sedentary individuals indicate lack of time as their number one barrier to being physically active.
