Background Carbapenemase-producing carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae are a significant problem worldwide that causes life-threatening infections. Objectives To evaluate the performance of the phenotypic method [modified carbapenem-inactivation method (mCIM) and EDTA-modified carbapenem inactivation method (eCIM)] tests to detect carbapenemase production compared with the genotypic method (real-time PCR) in Escherichia coli and Klebsiella species strains that were isolated from patients in the Menoufia University Hospitals.
