Background Carbapenemase-producing carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae are a significant problem worldwide that causes life-threatening infections. Objectives To evaluate the performance of the phenotypic method [modified carbapenem-inactivation method (mCIM) and EDTA-modified carbapenem inactivation method (eCIM)] tests to detect carbapenemase production compared with the genotypic method (real-time PCR) in Escherichia coli and Klebsiella species strains that were isolated from patients in the Menoufia University Hospitals. Methods E. coli and Klebsiella species strains were isolated from patients in different departments of the Menoufia University Hospitals.
