An Analysis Of A Herd-Based Lactation Curve Reveals The Seasonal Effect From Dairy Cows Fed Under High Ambient Temperatures, Sumpun Thammacharoen, Somchai Chanpongsang, Narongsak Chaiyabutr, Supattra Teedee, Attapol Pornprapai, Aemwika Insam-Ang, Channarong Srisa-Ard, Niran Channacoop

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The presentinvestigation was carried out to demonstratethe effect of high ambient temperature (HTa) on lactation performance with herd-based measurement. One large dairy farm in Thailandwith more than 300crossbred Holstein cows milking each monthwas selected. The meteorological data was recorded once a week during the period of observation. Milking cows (n=90) were observed for a 10-month lactation curve based on their calving seasons: Summer, rainy and winter. The lactation curve was fitted by nonlinear regression using the reduced lactation persistency model. The climatic conditions revealed a high degree of temperature and humidity index (THI). The average THI throughout the year was 84.8 …

Influence Of Heat Stress On Pregnancy Rate Of Beef Cattle Heifers And Cows Using Ovsynch Plus Cidr Followed By Timed Artificial Insemination In Thailand, Jatuporn Kajaysri, Anuwat Wattananorasate Mar 2018

Influence Of Heat Stress On Pregnancy Rate Of Beef Cattle Heifers And Cows Using Ovsynch Plus Cidr Followed By Timed Artificial Insemination In Thailand, Jatuporn Kajaysri, Anuwat Wattananorasate

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

This study aimed to evaluate the pregnancy rate in beef cattle heifers and cows in Thailand under different heat stress conditions using the Ovsynch plus controlled internal drug release (CIDR) followed by timed artificial insemination (TAI) protocol. Eighty-one beef heifers and ninety-five postpartum cows were tested. These cattle were divided into three groups. Group 1 (29 heifers and 33 cows) was examined in winter, while Group 2 (25 heifers and 30 cows) and Group 3 (27 heifers and 32 cows) were examined in summer and rainy season, respectively. All cattle were treated with Ovsynch plus CIDR for 7 days followed …

Effect Of Heat Stress On Reproductive Performance Of An Imported Dorper Ram: A Case Study In Thailand, Saritvich Panyaboriban, Junpen Suwimonteerabutr, Theerawat Swangchan-Uthai, Theerawat Tharasanit, Nawapen Phutikanit, Mongkol Techakumphu Dec 2016

Effect Of Heat Stress On Reproductive Performance Of An Imported Dorper Ram: A Case Study In Thailand, Saritvich Panyaboriban, Junpen Suwimonteerabutr, Theerawat Swangchan-Uthai, Theerawat Tharasanit, Nawapen Phutikanit, Mongkol Techakumphu

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The aim of this study was to observe the possible influence of seasonal and environmental conditions on ejaculated semen qualities and male reproductive traits in an imported ram under tropical conditions. A Dorper ram was imported from South Africa and raised in Nakhon Pathom province. Semen was collected monthly by an artificial vagina over a period of one year. Semen picture and other parameters were evaluated in each sample. Climatic data (temperature, relative humidity and day length) were provided by the Meteorological Department of the Ministry of Communications of Thailand. Results showed that semen characteristics (volume, concentration, mass motility, motility …

Electrolyte And Ascorbic Acid Supplementation For Heat Exposed Broilers In Thailand, Chackrit Nuengjamnong, Kris Angkanaporn Jun 2015

Electrolyte And Ascorbic Acid Supplementation For Heat Exposed Broilers In Thailand, Chackrit Nuengjamnong, Kris Angkanaporn

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The objective of this study was to compare the effects of ascorbic acid and mixed electrolytes on growth performance, ammonia emission and serum antioxidant enzyme activity in broilers during summer period. Two hundred and ten male and female Arbor Acre broilers during grower-finisher period (22-42 days old) were allocated into 3 groups with different additives in drinking water: 1,000 ppm ascorbic acid (T1); 2,000 ppm mixed electrolytes containing only Na+, K+ and HCO3- (T2) and none (T3 serving as control group). The experiment was conducted in an open broiler house during the summer period between April and May. Results indicated …

Effect Of Improved Cooling On Daily Rhythmicity Of Body Temperature In Cross-Bred Holstein Dairy Cows Under Tropical Conditions, Siriwat Suadsong, Thuchadaporn Chaikhun, Junpen Suwimonteerabutr Sep 2013

Effect Of Improved Cooling On Daily Rhythmicity Of Body Temperature In Cross-Bred Holstein Dairy Cows Under Tropical Conditions, Siriwat Suadsong, Thuchadaporn Chaikhun, Junpen Suwimonteerabutr

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The objectives of this experiment were to study the effect of heat stress on daily rhythmicity of body temperature in dairy cows under hot and humid climatic conditions and to evaluate the efficacy of improved cooling system by monitoring body temperature. Sequential measurements of body temperature, air temperature, relative humidity and THI were monitored every 5 min. Four cross-bred Holstein-Frisian (93.75% HF) cows were assigned randomly to be used in two trial periods to determine the effects of heat stress and improved cooling system on body temperature. The experiment was conducted in the barn for a total of 6 days, …

Physiological Reactions Of Poultry To Heat Stress And Methods To Reduce Its Effects On Poultry Production, Narongsak Chaiyabutr Jun 2004

Physiological Reactions Of Poultry To Heat Stress And Methods To Reduce Its Effects On Poultry Production, Narongsak Chaiyabutr

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Thermal environment is regarded as the prime factor governing the production because, both the feed consumption and heat production are related closely to the thermal environment. Therefore, heat stress is caused by a combination of environmental and animal factors that result in reduced performance as the animal attempts to cool itself. In this review, the physiological reactions of bodily functions during heat exposure in poultry are described. Thermal panting, the marked response of poultry to heat stress, is compensatory behavior to permit a high rate of evaporative cooling from the respiratory tract. Cardiorespiratory responses to thermal stress show different patterns …

The Effect Of Chronic Heat Stress On The Urinary System Pathology Of Broilers, Worapol Aengwanich, Suchint Simaraks Sep 2003

The Effect Of Chronic Heat Stress On The Urinary System Pathology Of Broilers, Worapol Aengwanich, Suchint Simaraks

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Thirty six, one day old broiler chicks were obtained from a commercial hatchery. They were brooded for 20 days before being placed in layer cages, with a wire floor, at 26-28oC, for a 7 day adaptation period. On day 28, the broilers were transferred into environmentally controlled housing, at 26-28oC, and were subjected to heat stress for 5 hrs, at a temperature of 33±1oC, each day, for 21 days. Fifteen birds were then randomly killed by cervical dislocation for macroscopic and microscopic examination of the urinary system. The results revealed that the ureters in 9 out of 15 broilers showed …
