Common injectable anesthetics in cats are alpha-2 receptor agonists and tiletamine/zolazepam. Xylazine shows higher rate of side effects because its lower specificity to alpha-2 receptors than dexmeditomidine. However, the use of drug combinations in cats is not much known. Therefore, alternative anesthetic combination should be investigated. Here, we examined the use of tiletamine/zolazepam with two doses of dexmedetomidine in cats. A total of 24 female cats, weight 3.05 ± 0.10 kg (mean ± SEM). A two-year-old spayed female mongrel cat presenting with right hind limb lameness with intermittent weight bearing while walking was taken to the veterinary medicine teaching hospital of National Chung Hsing University. Both drawer test and tibial compression test were positive, stifle radiography showed synovial fluid had become more radiopaque. The tentative diagnosis for the cat was rupture of the right cranial cruciate ligament (CrCL), medical management using corticosteroids was prescribed with anticoagulants and surgical treatment recommended. A 6-month-old, 4.45 kg, intact, male domestic shorthair cat was presented with a gingival mass located on the left rostral maxilla and second left upper premolar tooth. Intraoral x-ray of the left rostral maxilla revealed left maxilla bone lysis with a unilocular cystic lesion. The cytology result revealed an epithelial cell tumor .A left rostral maxillectomy was performed and the tumor was submitted for histological assessment .Histopathological diagnosis of the tissue revealed a feline inductive odontogenic tumor .There was no evidence of tumor recurrence 24 months after surgery.

Two 3-month-old, male, domestic short hair, cats of the same litter were presented to the small animal teaching hospital with the clinical sign of head tremor for 2 weeks. Three months later, the clinical sign had worsened. Both kittens had loss of balance and showed intention tremor. Physical examination revealed hypertelorism, depressed bridge of the nose and back pain. Radiography showed shortened cervicothoracic vertebral bodies. This case report describes the successful use of fluralaner in treating demodicosis caused by Demodex cati in a cat. A 4.2 kg 10 – year – old spayed female Siamese short – haired cat was presented with a 5 – month history of severe dermatitis. The cat had been treated at previous animal hospitals with a variety of drugs such as antimicrobials, glucocorticoids and ectoparasiticides on separate occasions but the clinical signs remained severe. A 6-year-old neutered male Siamese cat was presented with an acute onset of vomiting, anorexia and lethargy lasting for four days. An abdominal mass was palpated on physical examination. The cat showed severe anemia, elevated liver enzymes and hypoalbuminemia. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed a suspected hepatic mass without blood flow within the affected region. Computed tomography was performed to better visualize the abdominal cavity and blood flow. Prompt diagnosis of torsion of the left lateral liver lobe was made and immediate surgery for liver lobectomy was performed. Histopathological examination revealed no evidence of neoplasia. FIV and FeLV infections are mostly studied among clinically sick cats; therefore, results may deviate from the true prevalence in a whole population. By using a commercially available kit, the infections were observed in 216 clinically health client-owned cats in Khon Kaen province, Thailand. A cross-sectioned study was undertaken to estimate the presence of FIV and FeLV infections in the cats which underwent health checkup from October 2016 to January 2017. The prevalence of FIV-antibody positive and FeLV-antigenic cats were 6.1% and 3.1%, respectively, and co-infection was not identified. The objective of this study was to distinguish between cats with cardiac disease and non-cardiac disease by using parameters obtained from thoracic radiographs. This study was performed in 49 cats with a mean age of 7.7±4.79 years. Weight, sex and breed of all cats were randomly chosen. Echocardiography was used as a gold standard to diagnose cardiac disease and separate the cats into two groups, cardiac disease (n=31) and non-cardiac disease (n=18). The efficacy of 10% w/v fipronil spot-on for treatment and prevention of Rhipicephalus sanguineus infestation on cats was examined. Twelve cats were randomly allocated into two groups which were the treatment and control groups. The treatment group received 10% fipronil spot-on at a dosage of 6.7 mg/kg on day 0. A group of 60 R. sanguineus was released to feed on each cat on days -7, -2, 3, 7, 14, 21, and 28. The ticks were counted and removed on days -4, 3, 6, 10, 17, 24, and 31. Treatment Of Microsporum Canis Infection In A Cat Using A Fungal Vaccine, Piyarat Chansiripornchai, Nipattra Suanpairintr

Successful treatment of Microsporum canis infection in a 8 - year – old, male Thai - mixed breed cat using a fungal vaccine containing inactivated M. canis by 3 subcutaneously injection 14 days apart was reported. A reduction of the lesions and hair regrowth had improved by day 14 after the first injection. There were no adverse effects in the cat during the entire treatment. The results of this study indicate that an inactivated M. canis vaccine may be effective therapy for M. canis infection.

The objective of this study was to examine the expression of 4 clinically-important Mex systems including MexAB-OprM, MexCD-OprJ, MexEF-OprN and MexXY in the Pseudomonas aeruginosa clinical isolates from dogs and cats. The isolates exhibited high level of resistance to multiple antibiotics clinically important. All of them simultaneously overexpressed up to three different Mex systems, including MexAB-OprM, MexEF-OprN and MexXY as determined by RT-PCR. None of the isolates overexpressed MexCD-OprJ. Expression of mexF was measured by using quantitative real-time RT-PCR. Transcription level of mexF varied (i.e. 4-219 fold) but was at least 4 fold higher than that of PAO1. DNA sequence …

The study aimed to apply flow cytometry (FC) for early detection and monitor of treated response cats withIMHA by measuring immunoglobulin-G (IgG) and immunoglobulin-M (IgM) on red blood cells. Coombs' test and FCmethod were performed in twenty-nine cats including: ten clinically normal client-owned cats and nineteen anemiccats with packed cell volume of less than 27%. The study is of the antinociceptive effects of tramadol on the thermal threshold response in eight cats using athermal threshold-testing device which contained a heater element and a temperature sensor placed on the shavedlateral thoracic area. Each cat randomly received an intramuscular administration of tramadol 2 mg/kg, morphine 0.2mg/kg and saline 0.04 ml/kg (placebo) at a weekly interval from an observer unaware of the treatment. A four years old, mixed breed cat was reported to have a Joyeuxiella sp. tapeworm infection. Upon necropsy, The most striking lesion was a diffuse chronic catarrhal enteritis along with a heavy tapeworm infection in the small intestine. The tapeworms were identified as the genus Joyeuxeilla, Family Dilepididae, based on the morphology which were comprised of 2 sets of reproductive organs in a mature segment and only one egg in each egg capsule, in the gravid segments. This is the first report of Joyeuxiella sp. tapeworm infection in Thailand.

Immunohistochemical Detection Of Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis In A Cat, Nopadon Pirarat, Yumi Une, Yasuo Nomura

A female, 10-month old, mixed breed cat showed clinical signs of severe dehydration, purulent nasal discharge, dyspnea, severe crepitating lung sounds and no response to antibiotic treatment. Upon necropsy, histopathology revealed severe, diffuse, fibrinopurulent pleuropneumonia and numerous, homogeneous, amphophilic, intranuclear inclusion bodies in the pulmonary alveolar macrophages, bronchial and alveolar epithelium and bronchial glandular epitheliums. Immunohistochemical studies using 3 different monoclonal, anti-Feline Herpesvirus type 1 antibodies, revealed immunoreactivity of viral antigen in the lung that was associated with the histopathological changes. Monoclonal, anti-glycoprotein B, antibody showed the strongest immunoreactivity.
