The Associations Between Central Serous Chorioretinopathy And Muscle Relaxants: A Case-Control Study, Manish Jain, Sunir J. Garg, Mohammad Khan, Varun Chaudhary, Dena Zeraatkar, Dhanya Kurian, Sarath Lal

Wills Eye Hospital Papers

PURPOSE: To evaluate the role of muscle-relaxants as risk factors for the development of central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) - the second most common retinopathy in our settings; despite multiple risk factors seen in our patients, 21% were initially labelled as idiopathic.

MATERIALS AND METHODS: Retrospective case-control study at a tertiary hospital in the United Arab Emirates, where we reviewed the medical records of 273 patients with CSC examined between 2010 and 2019 for use of muscle-relaxants including tolperisone/eperisone, carisoprodol and gabapentin/pregabalin within a year of onset/recurrence of the disease. Intake of drugs with known association with CSC (including corticosteroids/sympathomimetics) was …

Menoufia Medical Journal

Objectives The primary aim of the study was to show the effect of pregabalin premedication on anesthetic requirements in knee arthroscopy. The secondary aim was to study its effect on postoperative sedation, analgesia, and recovery time. Background Outpatient arthroscopic knee surgery can be performed with general or regional anesthesia. Recent data suggest that spinal and epidural anesthesia require longer discharge times than the newer shorter-acting general anesthetic drugs. Patients and methods The study was a prospective randomized controlled trial that was carried out on 112 patients admitted to Orthopaedic Surgery Department for elective knee arthroscopy. Patients were randomly classified into …

Patients and methods A total of 40 adult patients of both sexes, American Society of Anesthesiology I physical status, aged between 18 and 50 years, scheduled for elective spinal surgery during the period from August 2019 till July 2020, were randomly divided into two equal groups of 20 patients …

Multimodal Pain Management To Reduce Opioid Use After Cholecystectomy, Danielle Tretbar

Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Papers

The purpose of this research and systematic literature review is to determine effective pain management options for patients undergoing a cholecystectomy procedure while decreasing the use of postoperative narcotics. In this review, the databases searched included PudMed, Clinical Key and Dynamed Plus. A variety of key terms were used when searching. Studies chosen from this search were peer reviewed and included randomized control trials, systematic reviews and met analyses. Excluded studies did not particularly research the drug classes of interest or they dealt solely with different surgical pain interventions during the procedure. The research presented shows the use of gabapentinoids, …
