A Real-World Comparison Of Relapse Rates, Healthcare Costs And Resource Use Among Patients With Multiple Sclerosis Newly Initiating Subcutaneous Interferon Beta-1a Versus Oral Disease-Modifying Drugs., James D Bowen, Chris M Kozma, Megan M Grosso, Amy L Phillips
Articles, Abstracts, and Reports
Background: Administrative-claims data enable comparative effectiveness assessment using large numbers of patients treated in real-world settings.
Objective: To evaluate real-world relapses, healthcare costs and resource use in patients with MS newly initiating subcutaneous interferon beta-1a (sc IFNβ-1a) v. oral disease-modifying drugs (DMDs: dimethyl fumarate, fingolimod, teriflunomide).
Methods: Patients from an administrative claims database (1 Jan 2012-31 Dec 2015) were selected if they: were 18-63 years old; had an MS diagnosis; had newly initiated sc IFNβ-1a, dimethyl fumarate, fingolimod, or teriflunomide (first claim = index); had no evidence of DMD 12-months pre-index; and had 12-month eligibility pre- and post-index. Relapse was …
Ssri Maintenance Therapy Reduces Rate Of Recurrence For Elderly Patients With First Episode Of Major Depression, Blake J. Arthurs
Ssri Maintenance Therapy Reduces Rate Of Recurrence For Elderly Patients With First Episode Of Major Depression, Blake J. Arthurs
Clinical Research in Practice: The Journal of Team Hippocrates
A critical appraisal and clinical application of Reynolds CF 3rd, Dew MA, Pollock BG, et al. Maintenance treatment of major depression in old age. N Engl J Med. 2006 Mar 16;354(11):1130-8. doi: 10.1056/NEJMoa052619. Based on the appraisal, long term SSRI maintenance therapy is recommended for elderly patients suffering from first episode of major depression.

Background
It remains unclear if naltrexone combined with psychotherapy is superior to naltrexone alone in treating alcohol use disorders (AUD). The current meta-analysis examined the hypothesis that psychotherapy is a significant moderator that influences AUD-related outcomes and that naltrexone combined with psychotherapy is associated with significantly better AUD-related outcomes than naltrexone alone.
Methods
A total of 30 studies (Nnaltrexone = 2317; Nplacebo = 2056) were included. Random effects model meta-analyses were carried out for each of the studied outcomes. Subsequently, the random effects model pooled estimates from studies with and without psychotherapy were compared using a Wald test. A mixed-effect …
Application Of Mechanical Vibration To Enhance The Stability After Orthodontic Treatment - A Micro - Ct Study, Nicolas Branshaw
Application Of Mechanical Vibration To Enhance The Stability After Orthodontic Treatment - A Micro - Ct Study, Nicolas Branshaw
Master's Theses (2009 -)
Introduction: Mechanical vibration (MV) possesses anti-resorptive properties that can possibly enhance the stability of the dentition during retention, lessening the potential for relapse of teeth to their initial positions. In this project, we established a mouse model and investigated the effects of MV on bone modeling during orthodontic retention. Materials and Methods: Thirty-two 14-week-old inbred strain C57BL/6 male mice were randomly assigned into four groups: 1) Control (N=6); 2) Mechanical Vibration (MV) (N =6); 3) Orthodontic Retention (OR) (N=9); and 4) Orthodontic Retention and Mechanical Vibration (ORMV) (N=11). All mice in OR and ORMV groups received approximately 10g of orthodontic …
The Association Between Medication Adherence In Mental Illness And Substance Use Disorder Relapse In Patients With Dual Diagnosis, Tyler Dunn
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Objectives: The aims of the study were to (1) identify personal, social, and clinical history for patients with substance use disorder (SUD) and mental illness, (2) measure agreeance between patient self-report versus facility record history for mental illness, substance abuse, and psychotropic medication, (3) investigate the specific role of medication adherence and barriers to use for psychotropic medications upon SUD relapse, and (4) assess follow-up changes in mental illness severity and medication adherence in dual diagnosis patients enrolled in a substance abuse rehabilitation program.
Methods: The pilot study utilized a mixed methodology. Inclusion criteria included male patients at least 18 …
Art Therapy And The Recovery Process: A Literature Review, Michelle Sharp
Art Therapy And The Recovery Process: A Literature Review, Michelle Sharp
Expressive Therapies Capstone Theses
Addiction to drugs and alcohol is a multi-faceted disease that has physical, mental, and financial consequences for the individual and for society at large. The global burden of disease related to substance use disorder is 5.4 percent worldwide according to World Health Organization (2014). There is a need to expand knowledge of the illness as well as create a more effective treatment method. The demand for addiction-based treatment is rising. There is a need to explore and strengthen research on therapeutic approaches to help individuals to combat substance use disorder and aide in the recovery process. Art therapy, according to …

In drug addiction, cues previously associated with drug use can produce craving and frequently trigger the resumption of drug taking in individuals vulnerable to relapse. Environmental stimuli associated with drugs or natural reinforcers can become reliably conditioned to increase behavior that was previously reinforced. In preclinical models of addiction, these cues enhance both drug self-administration and reinstatement of drug seeking. In this review, we will dissociate the roles of conditioned stimuli as reinforcers from their modulatory or discriminative functions in producing drug-seeking behavior. As well, we will examine possible differences in neurobiological encoding underlying these functional differences. Specifically, we will …
The Lived Experiences Of Opioid Withdrawal: A Phenomenological Study, Eliza Mall
The Lived Experiences Of Opioid Withdrawal: A Phenomenological Study, Eliza Mall
DNP Research Projects
The United States is in the midst of an opioid overdose epidemic resulting to 40,000 accidental drug overdose deaths. In 2016, the number of deaths related to opioid overdose increased to 116 people per day resulting to $504 billion in economic costs. This research study explored the lived experiences of drug addicts having experienced opioid withdrawal symptoms. Phenomenology is useful in discovering the narrative lived experiences that cannot be obtained in quantitative approach. Six themes emerged to describe the lived experiences of opioid addicts who have undergone withdrawal: (a) Increasing desires that are hard to resist (b) Helplessness and hopelessness …
