Abstract

Background

Previous studies have linked maternal depression with poor infant sleep (e.g., waking up at night and infants having trouble settling to sleep). This study examined the relationship between maternal depressive symptoms at three time points and safe infant sleep at 6-month follow-up.

Methods

Data was collected from a randomized clinical trial including 100 women recruited from a health center in Santo Domingo, Ecuador during their third trimester of pregnancy. Objective: To determine if diabetes locus of control (dLOC) is associated with depression in older adults with type 1 and type 2 diabetes and whether this association differs by diabetes type.

Methods: Data for the current study were obtained from The Study of Longevity in Diabetes (SOLID), a prospective cohort study of aging, and diabetes. SOLID participants aged 60 and older with type 1 diabetes (T1D), type 2 diabetes (T2D), and without diabetes were recruited from members of Kaiser Permanente Northern California (KPNC). Suicide rates have been on the rise for the past 30 years; 42,773 Americans dying every year by suicide. Suicide is the tenth leading cause of death among all ages, but the second leading cause of death among Americans ages 15-24. College students traditionally fall within this age group, and are especially at risk for suicide due to stressful life conditions. The University of Kentucky, located centrally within Kentucky in the city of Lexington, is an ideal location for a suicide prevention intervention. Depressive disorders are characterized as sharing affected mood, and somatic (e.g. sleep pattern, appetite, and unintentional changes in weight) and cognitive alterations from previous normal daily functioning that are clinically significant. Anxiety disorders are characterized by excessive fear, general or specific anxiety, and related behavioral disturbances that are also clinically significant. This project attempts to identify risk factors that may predict what groups are most likely to be affected by depression and/or anxiety.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to examine the associations between interpersonal partner violence (IPV), HIV risks, and depression among a sample of adolescent females who have sex with men and women.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using data from the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS). YRBSS data was obtained from representative samples of students in grades 9-12. The study sample was comprised of adolescent and young women who self-identified as having sex with men and women (WSMW)(N=526). Objective

High rates of depression are widespread globally and are among the leading causes of disability. To better understand the effects of depression on health outcomes, more research is necessary. This study examines the associations between depression and adverse respiratory outcomes among a cohort of Iowa residents living in a rural county. This study also investigates differences in the reporting of chronic and incident respiratory outcomes.

Methods
