© 2020, The Author(s). To better understand and define energy algorithms during physical activity as it relates to strength and movement strategy of the hip, knee and ankle, a model of increasing eccentric load was implemented in the current investigation utilizing a countermovement jump and a series of drop jumps from different heights (15, 30, 45, 60, 75 cm). Twenty-one participants were grouped by sex (men, n = 9; women, n = 12) and muscle strength (higher strength, n = 7; moderate strength, n = 7; lower strength, n = 7) as determined by a maximal squat test. Force plates …

Background: The study of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has traditionally focused on deficit of inhibitory control and cognitive impulsivity. However, the pathophysiology of ADHD has also been associated with the somatosensory cortex. The aim of this study was to explore if there were differences in tactile discrimination and praxis between neurotypical and ADHD children and whether these differences could be explained by cognitive impulsivity. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted. The sample comprised 74 children aged 7 to 11 years divided in two groups: 43 with neurotypical development, 31 with ADHD. To assess tactile discrimination, the finger localization and …

Whole-Body Cryotherapy Does Not Augment Adaptations To High-Intensity Interval Training, James R. Broatch, Mathilde Poignard, Christophe Hausswirth, David J. Bishop, François Bieuzen Aug 2019

Whole-Body Cryotherapy Does Not Augment Adaptations To High-Intensity Interval Training, James R. Broatch, Mathilde Poignard, Christophe Hausswirth, David J. Bishop, François Bieuzen

Research outputs 2014 to 2021

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of regular post-exercise whole-body cryotherapy (WBC) on physiological and performance adaptations to high-intensity interval training (HIT). In a two-group parallel design, twenty-two well-trained males performed four weeks of cycling HIT, with each session immediately followed by 3 min of WBC (−110 °C) or a passive control (CON). To assess the effects of WBC on the adaptive response to HIT, participants performed the following cycling tests before and after the training period; a graded exercise test (GXT), a time-to-exhaustion test (Tmax), a 20-km time trial (20TT), and …
