B1: Determination Of Reliability And Practicality Of Saliva As A Genetic Source By Analyzing Dna Yield In Forensic Investigation : A Systematic Review”, G Sujatha, J Muruganandhan

Annual Research Symposium

Background

Genetic analysis has become the mainstay of forensic identification protocols. Oral fluids including saliva are invariably present in crime and disaster scenarios; their availability probably exceeding that of conventional sources like blood. Due to the intrinsic nature of fluids, the substrates may be degraded due to time delay and environmental exposure. Therefore, a review of the reliability and practicality of saliva in forensic analysis is warranted.

Objectives

This review is designed and planned to present and critically analyze the most relevant clinical trials on the application of saliva in forensic settings in order to assess the reliability of saliva …

Evaluation of Visual Treatment Objective (VTO) Accuracy in Nonsurgical Orthodontic Treatment

Dr. Michael Trieu, Dr. Glen Roberson, Dr. Pramod Sinha, Dr. Calvin Heinrich, Dr. Kishore Chaudhry

Abstract

Background and Objectives

Visual treatment objectives (VTOs) predict the effects that different hard tissue movements can have on a person’s facial soft tissue. This is a powerful tool that can provide doctors with a visual prediction of what a patient would look like through various surgical and orthodontic movements while also providing a means to effectively communicate with patients. Initially, VTOs were drawn by hand, but technological innovations have provided the ability to …

C7: Comparison Of Four Dental Pulp-Capping Agents By Cone-Beam Computed Tomography And Histological Techniques—A Split-Mouth Design Ex Vivo Study, Muruganandhan J, Sujatha G

Annual Research Symposium

Dental pulp-capping is done to preserve vital teeth when the pulp is exposed due to caries, trauma or instrumentation. Various materials are used as pulp-capping agents. The introduction of newer materials requires scientific studies to assess their clinical efficacy. The study was designed as a split-mouth randomized analysis of four pulp-capping agents (calcium hydroxide, mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA), Biodentine and EndoSequence root repair material (ERRM)). Based on selection criteria, 15 orthodontic patients requiring the extraction of four premolars (60 teeth total) were included in the study. After pulp-capping, the teeth were extracted after 8 weeks. We analyzed the extracted teeth …

C6: Knowledge, Attitude, And Practice Of Senior Dental Students Toward Management Of Complications In Exodontia, T Srinivasa Prasad, P Manodh, T Shashank

Annual Research Symposium

Introduction: Dental graduates have a professional responsibility of being competent in managing the complications in exodontia, a very commonly performed procedure. Aim: The aim of this paper was to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice of senior dental students toward the management of complications in exodontia. Materials and Methods: Four hundred dental students participated in the study voluntarily. Verbal consent was obtained after elaborating the purpose of the study. A short validated questionnaire consisting of 12 close-ended multiple choice questions was distributed to all the students. The questionnaires were collected back and results from fully filled questionnaires were tabulated in …

S14: Factors Affecting Dental Students’ Comfort With Online Synchronous Learning, Roberto Lara Ms, Olivia R. Kalloo Ms, Mariana Pavlova Dmd, Donna Kritz-Silverstein Phd, David G. Mcmillan Dds

Annual Research Symposium

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many universities to expand the use of videoconferencing technology to continue academic coursework. This study examines dental students’ experience with videoconferencing technology, comfort levels, and perceptions of using videoconferencing technology.

Methods: 54 out of 100 second-year dental students enrolled in a course on local anesthesia, 54 completed a survey following an online synchronous lecture given in September 2020. Survey questions asked about prior experience with videoconferencing, comfort levels, and reasons for not turning on their video (showing their face).

Results: Overall, 48.2% had little or no prior experience with videoconferencing prior to March 2020. …
