Diagnosis and Treatment of Triple Positive Breast Cancer

Student Researcher: Caroline Daisy Seibert

Faculty Advisor: Dr. Elaine Halesey, Ed.D., R.T.(R)(QM)(ARRT)

Abstract

This project goes through the ways that triple positive breast cancer is diagnosed and the ways it can be treated. It also follows Patient X with how they were diagnosed and what current treatments they are doing to help stop the spread of the cancer. Breast cancer is one of the most common malignancies found in women and about 10% are diagnosed with triple positive breast cancer. Treatment options are discussed and has studies that show positive outcomes. Hormone …

Functional Mri Brain Scan, Miranda Bohn Jan 2022

Functional Mri Brain Scan, Miranda Bohn

Student Research Poster Presentations 2022

This project explains a functional MRI (fMRI) brain scan and the role magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can play in helping patients receive diagnoses and prepare for surgery. The purpose, contraindications, outcomes, methods, and common task performed are also discussed. A functional MRI records different areas of the brain that are active when the patient performs different tasks. Some of the different tasks that are done during task-based fMRI are sentence completion, finger tapping, verb generation and word generation. There are also times during the scan when the patient just lays still known as a resting-state fMRI. This brain scan has …

Diagnosis Of Triple Negative Breast Cancer (Tnbc) Using Mammography, Sarah Mihalka Jan 2021

Diagnosis Of Triple Negative Breast Cancer (Tnbc) Using Mammography, Sarah Mihalka

Medical Imaging Senior Posters

Triple-Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) is a malignant, aggressive cancer that can affect men or women. Mammography is very helpful in diagnosing this type of cancer. The only option at this time for treatment for TNBC is cytotoxic chemotherapy. There is research being conducted to obtain more treatment options for patients. This is proving to be difficult because TNBC is negative for all hormone receptors. On a mammogram, this cancer may present as a lobulated mass with or without calcifications. This comes as a surprise because most masses present on a mammogram tend to be spiculated. This proves for an …

Use of Computed Tomography (CT) to Diagnose COVID-19

Ryan Gilgallon

Dr. Elaine Halesey, Ed.D., R.T.(R)(QM)

This project explains COVID-19 and the role Computed Tomography (CT) can play in diagnosing patients who have infections. General equipment used, symptoms, findings and abnormalities, methods of early detection, rates of misdiagnosis, advantages of CT, and a case study are also discussed. COVID-19 originated in Wuhan, China and rapidly spread throughout the world being transmitted from human to human, affecting the respiratory system. The most common findings in this project consisted of ground-glass opacities (GGO), fibrous stripes, interlobular septal thickening, and consolidation. Computed Tomography is …

Diagnosis And Treatment Of Peripheral Artery Disease (Pad) In Interventional Radiography, Evan Busher Jan 2020

Diagnosis And Treatment Of Peripheral Artery Disease (Pad) In Interventional Radiography, Evan Busher

Medical Imaging Senior Posters

Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) is a narrowing of the peripheral arteries which supply blood to the legs, arms, stomach, and heart. This narrowing occurs due to atherosclerosis, which is the buildup of plaque or fat on the walls of the blood vessels. Atherosclerosis results in the restriction of blood flow to the desired site, which is most often the legs. The most common symptoms for PAD are cramps or pain in the leg when walking, which subsides during periods of rest. A brachial-ankle index test can be administered to monitor the blood pressures in the upper and lower limbs to …

The Impact Of Covid-19 On Radiation Oncology Treatments, Lauren Fink Jan 2020

The Impact Of Covid-19 On Radiation Oncology Treatments, Lauren Fink

Medical Imaging Senior Posters

When the COVID-19 pandemic began, hospitals became overwhelmed. There was a lack of personal protective equipment (PPE) and a lack of capacity within emergency departments, which caused a panic amongst medical facilities. Facilities were forced to prioritize patients and cancel appointments that were not urgent. Many doctors’ appointments were switched to tele-visits to limit exposure to the virus and to allow priority to COVID-19 patients. Not only were diagnostic testing and treatments postponed or canceled, but news was published that those who were immunosuppressed need to take extra precautions because the risk of fatality is greater for those with preexisting …
