Research methods must be consistent with the Science of Unitary Human Beings if one is to study irreducible human beings in mutual process within a pandimensional universe. The Unitary Field Pattern Portrait (UFPP) research method was developed from the criteria of Rogerian inquiry and is a hermeneutic/phenomenological research method designed to create a unitary understanding of the dynamic kaleidoscopic and symphonic pattern manifestations emerging from the pandimensional human/environmental mutual process to enhance understanding of significant phenomena related to human wellbeing. The purpose of this article is to explore the overview effect, an experience evoked by space travel that has the capacity to transform all patterns of human existence and evolution toward greater potentials in human diversity and creativity. As nurses migrate with humanity into the solar system and beyond, they will experience the overview effect. The core components of the effect include changed perceptions of space, time, sound, and weight which have the potential to transform the evolution of nursing science. The purpose of this investigation was to enhance theory and understanding of the phenomenon of dispiritedness in later life within the context of Rogers' Science of Unitary Human Beings using a research method congruent with the ontological and epistemological tenets of Rogers' nursing science. Eleven persons 52 to 92 years of age who identified themselves as being in later life and having experienced dispiritedness participated in a 40 to 70 minute in-depth interview which focused on their experiences, perceptions, and expressions of dispiritedness. Unitary pattern-based praxis is a nexus of Rogerian cosmology, philosophy, and science designed to inform practice/research using the praxis processes of pattern manifestation knowing-appreciation and voluntary mutual patterning. Living In The Heart Of Helicy: An Inquiry Into The Meaning Of Compassion And Unpredictability Within Rogers' Nursing Science, Howard Butcher

Rogers used the term "compassion" throughout her writings, however, there has been no inquiry into the meaning of compassion within a unitary perspective. In addition, while unpredictability is a core feature of helicy, there have been no inquiries specifically into what it means to participate knowingly in a human-environmental mutual process characterized by unfolding patterns of unpredictability. The heart is both a symbol of compassion and a vortex of energy characterized by turbulence and unpredictability.
