Self-efficacy focuses on an individual's self-assessment of his or her ability to perform a particular behavior. Existing self-efficacy scales for physical activity address exercise, a subset of physical activity. The Physical Activity Assessment Inventory (PAAI) scale was developed to specifically address the broader paradigm of self-efficacy for physical activity, which includes all structured and unstructured energy expenditure. The purpose of this article is to describe the development and evaluation of the PAAI. Initial psychometric testing was conducted with a sample of 219 women.
