Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Uterine torsion is an uncommon disorder of bitch and is more likely to occur in the pregnant animals. A three-year-old Labrador bitch was presented to the Madras Veterinary College Teaching Hospital with the history of having delivered two live puppies in the morning with no further signs of parturition. On abdominal palpation, the fetal mass was palpable. Radiography revealed three fetal skeletons and ultrasound revealed viable fetuses. Based on the history and clinical examination, the case was tentatively diagnosed as primary uterine inertia. Even after two inductions, no puppies were delivered and hence to save the life of puppies, emergency …

Proliferation And Apoptosis Of The Bitch Ovary During The Different Stages Of The Oestrous Cycle, Sayamon Srisuwatanasagul, Sukanya Manee-In, Promporn Raksaseri, Kongkiat Srisuwatanasagul

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

In order to maintain homeostasis of the ovary, proliferation and apoptosis occur simultaneously in different ovarian cell types. It was shown that steroid hormone which changed during the oestrous cycle, may regulate these mechanisms in normal mammal ovarian tissues. Therefore, the present study was aimed to study cell proliferation and apoptosis during different stages of the oestrous cycle in the bitch ovary by using immunohistochemistry and TUNEL assay. The bitch ovaries were collected at 4 different stages of the oestrous cycle, which were prooestrus, oestrus, dioestrus and anoestrus. Immunohistochemistry and TUNEL assay were applied to detect Ki-67 protein and apoptosis …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this case report, metastasis of a transmissible venereal tumor (TVT) to the uterus and ovaries is presented. A 7-year-old female boxer dog with hemorrhagic vulvar discharge and a vaginal mass was brought to Ankara University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Clinics of Gynecology and Obstetrics. TVT was diagnosed by clinical findings and cytologic examination. Multifocal nodules in the uterus and enlargements of the uterine wall were detected by ultrasonographic examination. Ovariohysterectomy was performed because of uterine pathology. Histopathologic examination of the uterus and ovarium showed that the multifocal masses in the uterus and ovaries originated from vaginal TVT.

A Comparative Study Of Steroid Hormone Levels And Oestrogen Receptor Alpha (Erα) Between Normal Bitch Uteri And Pyometra During Dioestrus, Sayamon Srisuwatanasagul, Kongkiat Srisuwatanasagul, Sudson Sirividayapong

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Ovarian steroid hormones and their receptors play an important role in both physiological as well as pathological changes seen in the uterus. For the further understanding of the mechanism of pyometra, in relation to steroid hormones and their receptors in the bitch, the difference between the expression of the oestrogen receptor alpha (ERa) between normal and pyometra bitches during dioestrus was investigated. Uterine samples were collected during dioestrus from normal and pyometra bitches. Immunohistochemistry was used to investigate the expression of ERa in the different compartments of the uterus. The results showed that the levels of steroid hormones in the …

Ultrasonographic Monitoring Of Follicular Development, Ovulation And Corpora Lutea Formation In A Bitch, Kemal Eker, M. Rifat Salmanoğlu

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Follicular development, ovulation and corpora lutea formation in a bitch were monitored daily by ultrasonography using a 8-MHz linear transducer. These findings were compared with vaginal cytology and changes in the peripheral serum concentrations of oestradiol-17\beta and progesterone. The follicles were identified as anechoic spherical structures on day 6 of prooestrus. The numbers of follicles imaged on day 6 of prooestrus were 3 on the left ovary and 3 on the right ovary. The average follicular size was 0.67 ± 0.06 cm on the right ovary and 0.48 ± 0.02 cm on the left ovary during the follicular phase. Apparent …
