Isolation Of Aerobic Bacterial Agents From The Lungs Of Sheep And Goats With Pneumonia And Detection Of Pasteurella Multocida And Mannheimia Haemolytica By Polymerase Chain Reaction, Gökben Özbey, Adi̇le Muz

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The purpose of this study was to isolate Pasteurella spp and other aerobic bacterial agents from the lungs of sheep and goats with pneumonia and to identify Pasteurella multocida and Mannheimia haemolytica by both culture methods and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). In addition, mouse pathogenecity tests were carried out on suspected P. multocida isolates. In the examination of lung samples collected from sheep, 15 (4.3%) P. multocida and 8 (2.3%) M. haemolytica strains were isolated and identified. The numbers of species identified in the goat samples were 1 (0.7%) for P. multocida and 6 (4%) for M. haemolytica. The differences …

Seroprevalence Of Babesia Ovis In Sheep Around Afyon, Hati̇ce Çi̇çek, Ali̇ Düzgün, Zi̇şan Emre, K. Zafer Karaer Jan 2004

Seroprevalence Of Babesia Ovis In Sheep Around Afyon, Hati̇ce Çi̇çek, Ali̇ Düzgün, Zi̇şan Emre, K. Zafer Karaer

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study was carried out to determine the seroprevalence of Babesia ovis around Afyon between June and September 2000. During this period, blood samples were collected to obtain serum samples from total of 204 Akkaraman sheep in different age groups in 9 different localities. During sampling, peripheral blood smears were prepared from the punctured ear of each animal. Ticks were also collected from the animals sampled. The sera were tested for the presence of antibodies to B. ovis by ELISA. The blood smears were stained with 5% Giemsa stain solution and were examined microscopically. Antibodies against B. ovis were detected …

Epizootiological Studies On Haemaphysalis Ticks In Ankara Province, Turkey, Hati̇ce Çi̇çek

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study was carried out in Ankara province, Turkey, between September 1996 and August 1998. During the study 1208 sheep, 1001 goats and 1059 cattle were examined for Haemaphysalis ticks. These examinations revealed that 380 (37.96%) goats, 346 (28.64%) sheep and 203 (19.16%) cattle had Haemaphysalis infestation. In total, 5254 Haemaphysalis ticks were collected from these animals. They were identified as H. parva, H. sulcata, H. punctata and Haemaphysalis nymphs. Of the 5254 Haemaphysalis ticks 89.70% were H. parva adults, 0.28% H. parva nymphs, 6.64% H. sulcata adults, 2.05% H. punctata adults and 0.13% H. punctata nymphs, while 0.89% were …

Comparison Of Crude And Excretory/Secretory Antigens For The Diagnosis Of Fasciola Hepatica In Sheep By Western Blotting, Bahadir Gönenç, Hifsi Oğuz Sarimehmetoğlu, Murat Kara, Feri̇de Kircali Jan 2004

Comparison Of Crude And Excretory/Secretory Antigens For The Diagnosis Of Fasciola Hepatica In Sheep By Western Blotting, Bahadir Gönenç, Hifsi Oğuz Sarimehmetoğlu, Murat Kara, Feri̇de Kircali

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Crude and excretory/secretory (E/S) antigens of Fasciola hepatica were subjected to SDS-PAGE and Western blot analysis in order to identify protein bands that would enable the specific and sensitive immunodiagnosis of sheep. Sera from 20 sheep with natural infections of F. hepatica, Dicrocoelium dendriticum, Cyst hydatid, Cysticercus tenuicollis, Trichostrongylidae, Paramphistomum spp., and Trichuris spp. and the same number of sera naturally infected with the same helminths without F. hepatica were tested using Western blotting, and the bands obtained from positive and negative groups were compared. According to the test results the specific protein bands for F. hepatica infection were 33, …
