Role Of Ultrasonography For Diagnosis Of Pediatric Acute Abdominal Pain, Mahmoud Kadry Elgendy, Mohammed Abo Elnaga Mohammed, Mohammed A. Abd Elghaffar

Al-Azhar International Medical Journal

Background: Ultrasound is very useful in assessment of acute abdomen in pediatric age groups, such as intussusceptions, acute appendicitis, acute cholecystitis ,renal stones and mesenteric lymphadenitis. As equipment and techniques improve, its role in the examination of infants and children continues to increase. Aim of Work: to evaluate role of ultrasonography for diagnosis of pediatric acute abdominal pain. Patients and Methods: Our study was conducted in Al-Azhar University from April 2021 to April 2022 and enrolled 30 cases of pediatric age group presented with acute abdomen 16 female & 14 male. In our study was examined by the same radiologist …

The Trichobezoar Enigma: Untangling The Intricacies Of Rapunzel Syndrome, Debabrata Sahu, Dr Rajkishor Sahu Jan 2023

The Trichobezoar Enigma: Untangling The Intricacies Of Rapunzel Syndrome, Debabrata Sahu, Dr Rajkishor Sahu

Digital Journal of Clinical Medicine

Rapunzel Syndrome is a rare manifestation of trichobezoar, characterized by the presence of hair strands extending beyond the stomach and into the duodenum. Trichobezoars typically develop in individuals with a history of trichotillomania, a compulsive behavioral disorder involving hair-pulling, combined with trichophagia, the ingestion of hair. While trichobezoars predominantly form within the stomach, their occurrence in the jejunum is infrequent. This condition is more commonly observed in adolescent females.

The formation of bezoars within the gastrointestinal tract is typically attributed to anatomical changes. However, in cases where no such anatomical abnormalities are present, psychiatric disorders like trichotillomania can lead to …

An Unusual Case Of Perforated Appendicitis In Situs Inversus Totalis In Indonesia, Valencia J. Martin, Imanuel T. Parinding

The New Ropanasuri Journal of Surgery

Situs inversus is a rare congenital anomaly where the internal organs are transposed in a mirror image. It is commonly unrecognized until a patient comes with a complaint, especially in developing countries where people do not have a routine medical checkup. We report a case of a young female with unusual left lower quadrant pain abdominal pain. Perforated appendicitis leading to peritonitis was confirmed using ultrasonography and successfully treated with laparotomy. Appendicitis should be considered a working diagnosis in lower left quadrant abdominal pain

Retroperitoneal Isolated Enteric Duplication Cyst, Fariha Fazal, Patricia Okiro Apr 2020

Retroperitoneal Isolated Enteric Duplication Cyst, Fariha Fazal, Patricia Okiro

General Surgery, East Africa

Enteric duplication cysts are rare congenital malformations of the gastrointestinal tract with an estimated incidence of 1:100,000 live births. Fewer still are isolated enteric duplication cysts (IEDC). Accurate diagnosis and timely excision of IEDCs can help in avoiding possible complications including bleeding from gastric mucosa and malignant transformation later in life. Currently, in the paediatric population, there are twenty reported cases in the literature worldwide. Of these, only three have been described in the retro peritoneum. We present a retroperitoneal IEDC, which was juxtaposed to the inferior vena cava. To the best of our knowledge, this has not been reported …

Spinal Cord Ischemia Following Endovascular Repair Of Infrarenal Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm: A Rare Complication, Abdelrahman Attili Md, Alberto Gonzalez

General Surgery

Introduction:

Paralysis secondary to spinal cord ischemia following Endovascular repair of infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm is extremely rare complication, the reported incidence in the literature is 0.21%.

Case report:

Our patient is an 85-year old female patient who presented to the emergency department with abdominal pain radiating to the back. Abdominal examination showed mild epigastric tenderness. Laboratory work up was within the normal limits, and she had Computed Tomography Angiography of the abdomen and pelvis which showed impending rupture of 5.8 cm abdominal aortic aneurysm. Distinguishing Post-Treatment Changes From Recurrent Disease In Cholangiocarcinoma: A Case Report., Timothy N Showalter, A Omer Nawaz, Frederick M Fellin, Pramila R Anne, Ernest L Rosato, Adam P Dicker

Department of Radiation Oncology Faculty Papers

INTRODUCTION: Three-dimensional techniques for radiotherapy have expanded possibilities for partial volume liver radiotherapy. Characteristic, transient radiographic changes can occur in the absence of clinical radiation-induced liver disease after hepatic radiotherapy and must be distinguished from local recurrence. CASE PRESENTATION: In this report, we describe computed tomography changes after chemoradiotherapy for cholangiocarcinoma as an example of collaboration to determine the clinical significance of the radiographic finding. CONCLUSION: Because of improved three-dimensional, conformal radiotherapy techniques, consultation across disciplines may be necessary to interpret post-treatment imaging findings.
