Background. The management of a recurrent inguinal hernia varies depending on multiple factors. In the case of recurrent inguinal hernias after open anterior repair, the laparoscopic approach is recommended. TEP and TAPP procedures are considered to have similar results. The purpose of the study is to evaluate on our sample if there are differences between primary inguinal hernia cases and recurrent hernia after laparoscopic TAPP and TEP procedures. Materials and Methods. We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 300 patients who underwent laparoscopic inguinal hernia repairs at our hospital from March 2013 to March 2023. Results. Of the 300 patients, …

Inguinal hernia is a common condition, with about 30% of men and 6% of women developing this condition throughout their lifetime. Laparoscopic hernia repair procedures have become more and more important lately, due to the advantages of a fast recovery and reduced postoperative pain. The paper presents our clinical experience involving the TAPP repair procedure, compared to open hernia repair (OHR). We retrospectively compared our first 50 cases comprising patients who underwent the TAPP hernia repair procedure between January 2018 and June 2020, with 50 cases who underwent the OHR procedure in the same period. The total operation duration was …

In very few cases stated in the literature, the vermiform appendix might be contained in a hernial sac. This distinctive pathology is described as Amyand's hernia and has the very small occurrence of about 1%. We report the case of a 62-year-old man that presented for a reducible tumoral mass located in the right inguinal region. Amyand’s hernia was the intraoperative diagnostic. We performed hernioplasty (using the Lichtenstein tension-free mesh repair with a composite polypropylene mesh) without appendectomy. This case matches the type 1 Lossanoff and Basson’s classification and has no facile management. Due to the clinical specificities of each …
