Background: Physical activity (PA) is a key performance indicator for policy documents in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Building on baseline grades set in 2014, Ireland's second Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth allows for continued surveillance of indicators related to PA in children and youth. Methods: Data and information were extracted and collated for 10 indicators and graded using an international standardized grading system. Exercise-related transient abdominal pain (ETAP), commonly referred to as “stitch”, is an ailment well known in many sporting activities. It is especially prevalent in activities that involve repetitive torso movement with the torso in an extended position, such as running and horse riding. Approximately 70% of runners report experiencing the pain in the past year and in a single running event approximately one in five participants can be expected to suffer the condition. The current study analyzed the sport commitment and purchase intentions of club level intercollegiate boxers and coaches. Participants at United States Intercollegiate Boxing Association ( USIBA) member institutions ( N = 155) completed an online survey answering questions regarding their sport commitment and future equipment purchase intentions. Background: In order to identify athletes at risk for sudden cardiac death (SCD), comprehensive screening that includes ECG interpretation is needed. Many primary care providers, including physicians and nurse practitioners, have reservations about including electrocardiograms (ECG) in the screening process because they lack confidence in their ability to correctly identify normal variants in the ECG of an athlete.
Method: An educational program with previously validated interpretation criteria for normal variants of the athletic heart was presented to providers at a university based healthcare clinic the Northeast. A pre and post design was used to compare the accuracy of ECG …
