Communication Sciences and Disorders Newsletter

As many of you know, this is the last Newsle􀆩er that I will be working on for the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department (CSD). My new role as Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs at Molloy College will not allow me the opportunity to continue in a full time faculty position in CSD. While I am excited about the challenges I face in my new position, I am very sad to leave my daily interactions with friends, colleagues, and students in CSD. It has been a long, fruitful, and enjoyable career in this program. I have had the pleasure of …

This has been an AMAZING year for all of us here at Molloy College. First, the New York State Education Department (NYSED) awarded the M.S. Program the opportunity to offer teacher certification to our graduate students in speech-language pathology. This certification is commonly referred to as the TSSLD and was the result of the tireless efforts of Professor Joanne Ascher, who initiated the application and the discussions with NYSED. Second, the Council of Academic Accreditation in Audiology and SpeechLanguage Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, awarded the MS degree program accreditation for a period of five years. This was …

Communication Sciences and Disorders Newsletter

The 2013-2014 academic year has been filled with memorable events. As you read, I think you will get a sense of how our department has grown and how many things we are grateful for. First, this academic year brought us 20 new graduate students to add to the 19 we already had. Students coming from approximately 16 different undergraduate programs have filled the halls with activity. The clinical educators, faculty and staff welcomed all of them and have enjoyed working with them. We will be reluctant to see our 2 nd year students leave us in May, but we look …

The fall 2012 semester has been a memorable one. Faculty, staff and students experienced the destruction of Hurricane Sandy. Powerless, cold and sometimes feeling isolated, the Molloy community pulled together to assist those in need in the aftermath of the storm. Though many of our own suffered great personal losses, we are grateful for the resilient spirit of the Community as everyone completes the semester with a positive attitude. Despite the devastation that was left in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, we have many things to be grateful for and many positive things have transpired over the past 6 months. …

Communication Sciences and Disorders Newsletter

The 2011-2012 academic year has been wonderful and full of exciting changes. You are probably all getting tired of hearing me say that each semester! I cannot avoid saying it. We have new full time and part time faculty, great students, plans for an upcoming “relaxation retreat,” an annual scholarship fundraiser, a 2013 trip to Ireland, and so much more. However, as I reflect on the year and the articles that were submitted to the Newsletter, I feel compelled to point out that the SpeechLanguage Pathology Department is facing one major problem: we have too many exceptional students and faculty …
