(2012) Analysis Of Author And Topic Trends For The Louisiana Journal Of Counseling (Ljc), Cassandra Guillaume, Shauna Russell, Meredith Nelson, Peter Emerson

This review will attempt to shed light upon the historical evolution of the Louisiana Journal of Counseling (LJC) by conducting a qualitative analysis of its published articles for the years 1999, 2001-2004, and 2006-2011. In order to conduct this analysis, we noted major author trends including: gender, professional title, and regional affiliation. In addition, we also highlighted five major subject areas that have emerged over the years, including: counselor identity, professional issues, counselor education and supervision, research and counseling techniques, and multiculturalism. From this analysis, we predicted possible future directions for this journal and highlighted some of the major findings.

Louisiana’s Student College & Career Readiness Act (SCCRA) has significant influence on the career development of the state’s public school students. Counselors in Louisiana working with clients in the area of career counseling and who have an awareness of James Marcia’s identity development statuses could facilitate the career development of those clients. This article presents: the background of both SCCRA and James Marcia’s identity development statuses; the pilot study of a dissertation research project; and implications and considerations for counselors in Louisiana.
